Is there a stamped build date on 76-78 frames?

I began rebuilding my 78 CJ 5 and after I removed the clutch/brake pedals I noticed the original paint was Brilliant Blue (6R ) (1976-78 ) yet the vin tag was stamp (7C) Autumn Red Metallic (1977-78 ) so it appears the tag has been swapped.

It has front brake drums, heater fan motor is mounted inside the cab and a round gas filler neck.

It’s now my understanding that the 78 had front disc, rectangular gas filler neck and the inside fan motor ran until early 78.

I have seen 76 CJ5 frames that have c-channel only from the rear wheels back, the one I have is completely boxed. The decals are missing off the grill and dash. The motor is a transplanted 360. At this point my guess would be a 77.

My question, is there a build date on the frame? If not, I should be able to check the build date on the axles. Thanks in advance.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

the VIN should be stamped on the frame somewhere I would think.
short of that, I don't know, other than I know auto theft detectives know what to look for...seems they don't tell much, or didn't use to anyway.

I found it in the same place fuzz401 posted (thanks).

    The stamped # is L795490.

Is there a build date in that number or is it just the last 6 digits of the VIN (SS#)?

If there is a build date I’m thinking it may be Sept. 5 1977…

    Does L = 12?
