Part Number Help

Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by vanguard, Jun 26, 2004.

  1. I need a part number for a set of head bolts for a 75-76 231 Oddfire Motor. Engine guy doesn't seem to be able to find the right ones.

    Joel-

All I have been able to find listed online are the 77-up bolts. You might try what I did when trying to find head studs for my L-134; Call ARP at 805.339.2200 and give them the dimensions & threads of the bolts you have. They will be able to hook you up with replacements that are close enough to work well for you. They are a bit $pendy, but well worth the price, as they are superior to OEM bolts in every respect. Get the matching washers too while you are at it. ;)

  3. The engine guy was telling me the same thing. ARP on monday.

  4. Joel: And, there sort of "local"--just up in Ventura. Got a set of carb studs from the local SS/Hot Rod shop here. They make just about everything.

  5. !#$!#$!#@$!@%$@#$%@. Maybe that should be in bold. Called both Summit and Jegs, neither one has odd-fire headbolts. '77 and up, evenfire only. Getting to be as bad as Autozone.

Joel, Was the engine original in your jeep or a swap out? If a swap what vech. was it from? I might be able to call the NAPA I work at and have them check it out for me.

  8. Brian,

I've been using a '75 Buick Regal with 3.8L 231 as the vehicle reference. The motor is a remanufactured short block I picked up on eBay with matching heads. Going to replace my F-134. If I can get the dang thing built.

Do you know if the part number you referenced is for the early or later ('77 and up) motors?

I talked to my manager. he looked up a 75 3.8. He knows his stuff. I would trust him on this. He's not wrong very often. I know the frustration.

  10. Okay. I'll pass the part numbers on to the engine guy. He has had NAPA try on two seperate occasions, but I'll check the part numbers against what he previously ordered.

    Thanks for the help!

Yes, Just part time every other weekend. I have to feed the Jeep habit. ;) I get a very good discount on parts for my personal stuff. I think I save more on patrs then I make working so I guess it's worth it.

  15. He thought they would work. I'm not sure, but I think his local NAPA is a franchise shop. Said the bolts were special order and so he'd have to order a box of 25, but they would be returnable if they were wrong. I told him to do order them. So we will see.

That could be for them. Not special for us. Do you know the specs on the bolts? I could go over to my store after I get off work and measure one for you if that would help. Let me know

  17. Brian,

Thanks for the offer. www.napaonline.com had the full specs, so I think they'll be fine.
