Engine Driven Compressor for F134

    Does anyone make a kit to convert an air conditioning or other compressor and attach to an F134?

    I'm not aware of any.

    You could fab up a bracket based on the engine governor one but I would suggest using a PTO & mounting it under the bed- that way it only runs when you need it.

    I'm curious as to the volume an air conditioner compressor displaces. Seems to me it would be much less hassle just to get a good 12volt one and be done with it.

    The York's have a displacement from 6.1 to 10.3 cubic inches. The 10.3 inch version (what I have in the 3B) at 2 to 3k rpm puts out as much air as a fairly large shop compressor. 9 to 10 cfm at 150 psi. A whole different league than even the biggest electrics like the ARB twin (what I have in the JK). I wouldn't mount any engine driven compressor off the PTO-just to hard to keep them out of the dirt. The electric AC clutch works just fine and the the extra belt is really the only parasitic power robber when not in use.

    The York's are worth the effort. Nothing like having a shop compressor with you out on the trail.

    That much air? Thats a whole lot of air! You could run a 1/2 impact off that. I had no idea. The compressor does not run unless you push the button to engage the electric clutch, Am i right? Thats how all the A/C units run. This is the same thing, right?

    That seems to be about what a friend of mine gets. His is mounted on a V6 which seems to have more places to mount easily. And yes, it's just like an air conditioner. Clutch only engages when energized. It seems like a pretty good deal to me. I just was hoping there was a mount designed for the F134.

    I know it's not a 134 but every one likes pics.

    Some food for thought:
    When making a mount for a York it should be in the upright position as they need oil in the crankcase and they don't have oil rings on the pistons.
    A York has the symmetrical mounting holes on the left, right and bottom.
    A smaller reserve tank(1 gal) works the best as the cycle time on the comp is less. These produce heat and have no cooling fins.
    The larger CFM ones are found on lower RPM motors. 429/460 vs 289/302 in the Ford world.
    A 85/120 PSI switch works great for clutch engagement.

    I've got a York on my f-head and it works great. I used the M38A1 crank and waterpump double pulleys. I found a small broken air compressor at a swap meet and used the tank and pressure switch. I don't have photos of the whole system handy, but here are some in progress photos of the bracket I made to mount the york. Keeping the belt from interfering with the lower radiator hose was my biggest oversight. The bracket in the first photos works great, but I had a first generation bracket with the york mounted lower that I finally gave up on. It had at least a 1/2 inch of clearance, but even with the belt tight managed to interfere slightly. I still have that first bracket laying around if anyone is interested in giving it a try.

    I would like the first bracket if you still have it. At least it would give me some idea how to fasten to the engine.
    Do you have a paypal account I could send you money to ship. I still can't figure out how to attach to the motor.
    I was figuring the other side was better as there is more room. Let me know.
