    Hello all,

I would guess this has been asked before, but I am having trouble locating a post on it so far. I am going to flat tow my 71 CJ5 and I just wanted to make sure I am doing it correctly.
It has a F134 engine, which I believe is attached to a T90 transmission. It is a 3 speed.
I'm not sure what the transfer case is. It has a single stick, going front to back 2h -> 4H -> N ->4L

I believe I just need to put the transmission and transfer case in neutral. I have found some posts online stating to lock the front hubs, but I don't know if this applied to my components.

    Thanks!
    Eric

Thank you! I don't think I went far enough back in the searches.

If its output to the rear axle is offset on the passenger side, its a dana 18. Dana 20 is centered to the rear axle.

So, does axle gearing matter when flat towing?

It changes the drag on the towing vehicle slightly. Very slightly with the driveshaft disconnected, a little more noticeably with the driveshaft hooked up.

It also would have some bearing on the maximum safe towing speed to use with the driveshaft still in place.
