Little update and prob a significant repair coming.....

    This truck is amazing...
took it off road this winter up in Maine for an annual land rover event.. the power from the V6 coupled with tire chains made the fact that I have an open rear diff seem insignificant..

Ive been interchanging Rovers the past few weeks with the fickle weather in NY... Had the Dauntless Rover out yesterday on the hwy... life was fine at 75mph and I started to get some misfire and stumble.
made it to the exit to fuel up thinking I was low (I was) and continued to my destination where it was apparent I had some internal engine issue..

Good oil pressure, constant temp, but some contact coming from the passenger side rocker cover.. (cyl # 4 I believe)

Time didn't allow me to investigate further.. I was able to get a ride home and I'm going to have to deal with this sooner or later...

Freshly rebuilt, well maintained Dauntless... :banghead:

Yeah, assumed as much to be honest...

Im in the fingers crossed realm right now...
ran it for a bit after it happened.. so I'm just staying positive..

putting some miles on this baby now... my left leg is getting a workout from the crash box..

Well so much for easy or lucky…

    engine being pulled, wasn’t a valve…

Well just got finished rebuilding this pig…

going to post up all the findings in short order..

End of the day had to line hone the crank and cam…. Noticed some of the rockers were handed wrong and dropped a valve seat in the passenger head.. chalking this up to piss poor machining and trusting somebody to do my own engine assembly….

    p.i.t.a lesson..

one odd think it noticed was the lever on the fuel pump was almost completely eaten through with only about 5k miles on the motor…. Is that an indication of something I’m missing??

:DStuff that happens when things go boom.

It was determined that most of not all of this was due to some piss poor machining. The one thing that kind of concerns me is the weather on the fuel pump arm.
I’m not gonna take zero responsibility for this, I do believe I was under cooked for the conversion, but that’s being addressed now with a V8 aluminum radiator

should be able to get the rebuild fired this week…. I miss this truck.

How do these things even happen? Did you lose a valve keeper or did a valve spring disintegrate? Clearly the eccentric for the fuel pump isnt getting oil. What about the cam chain?

Didn’t loose a keeper and all springs “ok”

bad machining. cam and crank needed to be line honed..
    Possible overheat?
Truck has / had great oil pressure…
