I put the drum on backwards to use as a slide hammer and it just wont budge. Am I doing something wrong, is there more to remove than the cotter pin and nut? I put my purse down and pulled hard and then I used heat. I'm exhausted, what now?

Does the threaded part of the axle come off the part with the wheel studs? Or does it come out all together? I'm not clear on what comes out.

If I take all the bolts out of the backing plate will the whole assembly slide out a couple inches?

Is there something in the power lok holding this in? I’m to the point where I’m beating the back of my drum with 2x4. Going to bend or break something.

    You need a hub puller.

Tapered axle, key way, tapered hub = stuck hard usually.

Put the nut back on part ways, if stuck hard enough the hub can literally fly off when it lets go.

For reference look at how hard the one Daryl showed has been hit.

I believe Focker worked on his for a couple days with a hub puller and left it under tension all night - when it released it made the 'shot heard around the world' or something to that effect.

You need to own a monster puller like in Daryl's picture. Nothing less.

It is the badge of True Jeepers.

Focker That's a terrible idea...What time? Staff Member

True, but it popped off within a couple of minutes once I had the puller.

Leave the nut threaded on so the hub doesn't shoot across the garage.

I've had them come off so hard they 'poked a hole in a block wall'... its no joke. I've got two pullers, one like Daryls' and one I made from an old HUB.

Mine's homemade out of old scrap. It's no joke how hard some of them come off.

But having them locked on is better than the side effects of a loose hub.

This reminds me of the rear Subaru hub I just replaced on my wife’s outback. After the puller ripped the hub apart I had to beat it off and it took hours. Literally. Finally came off after I went to town with a punch from the back side pushing it out. There was nothing left to attach any puller or slide hammer to once the spindle ripped out.
