had a whistling noise in the new/used jeep renegade I bought a few months ago
you could really hear it when you were taking off . took it to dealer shortly after I bought it . they said nothing wrong with it . normal they said :steamed:
long story short I had a young kid look at it . he's one of those tuner guys . you know the import crowd with the hopped up cars . he told me . just by riding in it . sounded like a turbo leak  . now this car is a 2015 with 15K miles on it . so he said to start by removing air inlet hose off of turbo . and spin turbo by hand .
just to eliminate any issue with turbo . just my luck you had to remove the air filter upper housing to remove hose . well you also had to remove the engine cover too . no big deal . I wanted to see under it anyway
IT turned out . when the dealer serviced this car before it was put on lot , when the mechanic changed out the air filter he broke a hose nipple . that hose that was open now . went all the way back to the big hose from intercooler to intake , so this is where the whistling was coming from .
checked online line for a new top . 170 dollars for the complete housing

so off to auto parts store for some JB Weld . 24 hours later . as we say watching paint dry . it's fixed

Maybe the dealer meant their mechanics normally damage what they "work" on?

Am I seeing that correctly - I didn't realize the engine was mounted sideways (transverse i believe its called?) on those Renegades?

My guess would have been turbo too. I've had that happen where an intercooler hose gets a tear and makes noise. The whistling should have went away when coasting down a hill when no boost was being made.

A friend of mine had an Austin America and it threw a center main bearing cap, only had three main bearings. He replace the main bearing cap with an aluminum one made out of a piece of aluminum. The engine/trans case was repaired with sheet metal screwed on to cover the hole and then JB weld over the metal to seal it from leaking...

It was still running last I heard...

A rock punched a hole in my dirt bike's clutch cover around 8 years ago. I limped it back to the car, and I threw some JB Weld on it when I got home. Haven't touched it since.
