they dont fly very far only 3 or 4 feet but its heavy so you dont want to be getting hit with it.

My hubs have always stayed put when they pop loose, but the dog bone on the puller has gone ballistic a time or two.

Many years ago, I pulled a pair of tapered flanges and rotors off an old Jaguar MKVll with a large puller (about 50% larger than OzFin's). The first side came off with a little work, the other side was a challenge. After borrowing a 4lb sledge and beating the crap out of the puller, both the dogbone and end of the puller shaft, I was resting and about to give up. The guy selling me the parts came out to see the progress and bring me a drink. We chatted about 10 minutes, then there was an explosion. The puller, hub, and rotor shot over 10' straight across into a huge tree. The puller nearly imbedded itself in the bark, with nearly a 2" indent in the tree.
That mass would have taken my leg clean off had I been in the way. I have had a very healthy respect for working with big pullers ever since. Don't treat then casually, and leave the nut on at least 5 turns.
I also have a very healthy respect for coil springs on cars, but that's another story.

Thank God for this site, I was using my puller to take off the rear drums, beating on it for 15 minutes, nothing, then all of the sudden it sounded like a shot gun going off, thank God I had the nut on.
I too have respect for pullers or anything under tension
    Cheers

    lets start it here. mine:

i didn't know it would be so difficult. had to buy a special tool i will most likely never use again, but will have the rest of my life.
i removed the cotter pin and the castle nut and tried using a slide hammer to remove it. didn't work. went to a FLAPS and rented there tool, which wasn't up to the task. i ended up buying a heavy duty one for $40 off of amazon, and after putting it on my hub, i began torquing it. after the dog bone wrench it came with wouldn't turn any more, i began to beat the one side of it down (tighter) with a Rbfh to no avail. so i had to get out my 4' pipe wrench (the purchase of a 4' pipe wrench is a story for another day) and put all of my weight on the furthest from center space i could. thankfully the pros here at ECJ5 were available for advisement and recommended i leave the castle nut on a few turns. thank jeebus i did, because when that hub finally let go, it shook the very foundations of the earth. i wouldn't be surprised if California felt aftershocks from the hub popping off of my axle shaft so violently.

I had a junk D44 I got for free. I bolted up that puller, used an impact to get it tight, smacked the screw to shock it, applied heat the hub, used a 3' cheater bar and nothing would make that hub come off. I gave up and just scrapped the whole axle. Happy to hear you got yours apart and no one got hurt.

How much is a new hub? Cheaper than a puller? Sometimes one is dollars ahead to cut off the stubborn part and install another.

also, i have a FC that im going to do a disk brake conversion on. that will need the hub puller as well, so for me, it was worth the purchase.
