V6 Still Overheating!

    Put a GoPro or similar in the engine bay to watch the lower hose with and without thermostat. This would eliminate the what if’s. Also wouldn’t hurt to do a leak down and test coolant for hydrocarbons.
    Lastly or firstly , I’d stick that temp sensor in boiling water. That will give you a baseline on it reading true or not.
    Edit:
    A 4.0L Jeep lower hose coil is 1.5” - round abouts, I can’t find my Dauntless pump or hoses, otherwise I’d measure to compare. Those 4.0l are everywhere, so I would guess someone in a local club would have one laying around.
    Edit 2: found them. lower dauntless hose will fit 4.0l hose coil.

    The lower hose needs a spring is my guess. I have been known to peel them out of the universal flex hoses. Personally have had this problem on more than one occasion.

    We also put restrictors in our molds at work because if the water flows to fast the mold will over heat. When injecting plastic at 250° celsius overheating will be very fast. In my experience a vehicle without a thermostat will overheat almost always on a hot day.

    The temperature sensor is reading water temperature i.e. the water is hot, making it seem the radiator is not large enough OR as discussed not spending enough time in the radiator to give up it's heat.

    Ordered spring from Summit. Should be here tomorrow. Went to local AA baseball game tonight so didn’t get a chance to run the Jeep. I did get the thermostat back in so I’ll drive it to work tomorrow.

    the bypass hose allows a small amount of water to circulate when the thermostat is shut. Doing so allows the metal parts of engine to rise to temp evenly and avoids hot and cold areas due to stagnant coolant.
    A source for ss spring material is inside pop up sprinklers. Stretch and or re-wind in larger diameter as needed.
    Installing the thermostat alone *may* slow the coolant flow enough a spring may be unnecessary. I'd throw it in regardless.

    That bypass is the little S shaped hose that fits between the pump and thermostat housing. The one he pinched off was an unused heater hose.

    Drove to work today with thermostat installed and the heater hose closed, small bypass hose is operating as intended. Temp never went over about 170* on Hwy at 45mph or even at 60mph. I think this does confirm the temp is lower with the thermostat slowing down the water flow thru the system.

    I did 15 minutes slow off road (deep sand) in low 4wd, the temp did raise to about 215*. Think when I install the shroud this will be better. Going to take my longest drive into Pensacola today. Fingers Crossed.....

    I'll keep updating here as I learn more.

    If you really want to cool it good slow down the air flow so the air has more time to pick up the heat.

    Come on guys..... can't we all just agree that the water needs to be restricted for many reasons....... after all we are all jeep owners and that makes us all wieners....... :rofl::D

    I did notice that the fan looks to be pretty far back from the radiator. In addition to the shroud, you might want to consider a fan spacer. Alternatively, you could consider removing the mechanical fan and replacing it with an electric. Just random thoughts.

    The bottom of the fan is quite a bit closer than the top - because of the 1/2" I lowered the transmission cross member I would guess. I wouldn't mind going electric. I'll add that to the list. I'm getting a long list for a Jeep I just got running .

    It's hotter this afternoon and the jeep did run hotter on my longest drive so far (25mi round trip). Don't think it ever went over 210 but even slowing to 30 on the back roads I couldn't get it to drop by more than a few degrees. Heat off the exhaust headers is not pleasant driving around.


    I did consider that also. But if its not over heating......
