My nephew is wanting to install this heater in his '59 CJ. He plans to install it under the dash on driver side in original location. Per his texts and pictures, looks like it will be tight.
Has anyone else installed their heater or Mojave in this location or is the passenger side much better? Although I'm several 100 miles away, trying to give him moral support and ideas. I would like to share this thread with him regarding your comments/ pictures to help in his fabrication. Thanks!

I installed a summit heater on the drivers side, ran the water line though the old heater box. Hook the air supply to the existing duct so I can use the original heater control. Hid the new heater control knob up under the dash. The only issue was the wiring harness in the area.

When you have time, could you please take some pic's of your install? Pictures are worth a million words.

Which heater is he thinking about? I have the 9" Summit heater in my 2A on the pass side and I can't imagine being able to fit it on the left side of the steering column (though I know a CJ-5 has more room) which model is he looking at?

He went with the 28,000BTU heater. It's 6.5" H x 9.5" W x 8.625 D. So far, he got it to fit. Once he has it up and working, I'll try to post pictures on the install.

I installed a Mojave dead center. I had to abandon the stock driver side location for swing pedals. And on the passenger side I have a CO2 bottle tucked up behind the glove box. I like it because it distributes heat to both sides, and isn't interfering with anything. Great heater too.
