Electric Power Steering Anyone

Discussion in 'Early CJ5 and CJ6 Tech' started by Montgomery J Yarbrough, Aug 24, 2021.

  1. I would like to put power steering in my jeep and the conventional power steering just isn't feasible for my jeep no room for the power steering pump. My welder is in the way has anybody installed the (epas) aka electric power steering system in their jeep if so pro's vs cons

It's been done, someone posted a pic here onetime showing a Saturn unit up under the dash.

Do you currently have a Ross box or Saggy ?

My '03 Mini Cooper came from the factory with it (been replaced under recall), and my VW Vanagon syncro w/Suby H6 has electric power steering from the '89 XT6 donor vehicle.
It was a pain to swap in. I had to install the Suby tone ring (chopper wheel) in the VW steering column, adapt the electro-hydraulic pump along side the engine with its relay boxes, and use the steering computer box. I also needed a speed sensor on the speedometer to make it work. The amount of boost is speed sensitive. In hindsight, I should have adapted the original VW power steering pump onto the Suby engine.

I've seen a few articles recently regarding using the electric steering system from a Prius for project cars.

  6. There is a guy on the 2CJ2a page that did a Prius box in his 2a. Looks clean and said works well with the Ross box.
