My serial number is 8305 S 221570. The SM indicates that a letter S following the serial number prefix indicates the engine is equipped with an exhaust emission control system, but I don’t have one. I also don’t have an oil bath air cleaner (I have an edelbrock air filter). Would the EECS have been removed when the oil air bath cleaner was swapped out, or am I misunderstanding the meaning of the “S” on my S/N?
    Thanks.

The main emission system was a v belt driven air pump with injection in the head exhaust ports. Do your heads have plugs in those? There was also a "valve" in at least the dry type airfilter inlet to help warm the air during cold weather. I do not recall that feature on my 67 with the oil bath air filter but it did have the pump. The FSM describes all that in detail.

I don’t have any of that, which is why when reading the FSM I was thrown off by what it said the S in the serial number meant.

They run better without that stuff. In a lot of places, not having the system isn't a problem but maybe in the peoples republic that isn't the case. Do you need to reinstall it? Place a WTB add in the classified.

That bracket may have been for the air pump, but also looks ALLOT like a portion of the power steering bracket of the era. Keep that part!

California does not require smog on any year before 1976. I have all the smog equipment that came off my 1970 in a box in the shop.
