That's how I did it when I replaced the in seals on my front axle. I used a ratchet strap to pull the carrier. BTW getting the inner seals out took some effort, installing the new seal was a b:censored:h due to the limited space to work with. May be there is a proper tool, but I use an appropriate size socket, hammer, and steel dowel.

So begins this new journey. I hate project creep but this is a necessary evil.

Seals were toast! Ended up buying a seal driver kit from harbor freight. Ruined 2 trying to install them. Adds up fast.
I was going to buy new spindles, as these are toast, but another 125 bucks spent on a dana 27? I don't think so. I have that spare axle here, so I'm going to pull the spindles off that and use them here.

Cannibalized a dana 27, stole the spindles and axle shafts to make this one better. The old stuff was too far gone to use. Didn't want to buy new, soooo...bought 8 inner axle seals and used 7 of them. Oh well, at least it's done.

Took long enough with the weather. Too cold to work in the shop.

You photo on post #103 shows some severe wear to the casting where the diff case/carrier has been cutting in, likely the reason the seals were torn up too. There’s a pile of metal shavings down there. Did you correct what caused this?

Those shavings were me trying to chisel out the old seal. I gave up after awhile, switched sides. That side came out easy peasy so when I sent back to the hard side I was able to easily pound it out from the inside

Unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured. May as well drive on the power companies wooden road. Maiden "road" voyage.

ATC (American transmission company) is putting up one of those big power lines. Its winter so these wooden roads are for the heavy equipment vehicles.

Over a month since I looked at this thing. Got kicked off my rubicon so it's back to wrenching I guess. Got the passenger seat mounted in place of the race seat it came with. Also mounted up the floor pan. It's not done right, but it's done so I can drive it at least.

Goodbye home made roll bar, and hard top. New seats are in. Mounts will be done better when I remove them to paint inside the tub.

I'm owning my sissy legs. The gas pedal is up so high I strain my shin keeping it at an upwards angle with the pedal. Suggestions?

I think you mean the gas pedal is up high. The later dauntless jeeps have a floor mounted gas pedal, as do a lot of cars from the 60 & 70's that you may be able to find at a pull-a-part type junk yard and adapt them to work.

As Homersdog notes, the later ones have a floor mount pedal. My '71:

Also as Homersdog notes people would adapt floor pivot pedals into them. My '68 came with this pedal the pushes on the original linkage. I have no idea what the pedal came out of:

A trip to the wrecking yard would probably find something quick.

The other thing you can do in the short term is set your foot on the narrow flat where the tras cover bolts are by the shifter. I do that on longer trips with my '69 that sill has the original pedal like yours.
