I used to think so.

 

One of those was out along the highway for sale in the Keys a year or more ago. I stopped by and checked it out. The price of $5K seemed high, but it was gone less than a week later.

My dad told me they used to race those in Vietnam. Eventually leadership had tank tracks put across the road to act as speed bumps to try and stop it. Apparently this was not effective

Got a Mule like that in the shop. Never got around to getting it running. A very back burner project. Pulled the engine, cleaned it up and got new carb and fuel pump. Never got back to it.
Those Gamma Goats are really cool. 6 wheel drive articulated can swim, 3 cylinder Detroit. Really cool.

I remember seeing that in the background of one of your pictures. Portal axle or independent rear suspension. It made me look them up.

 

They are fun to drive, and can go a lot of places. But there is no suspension....you get the crap beat out of you.

 

I have a 4-wheel steer. great for backing a trailer into a narrow spot. Great for woodcutting. Fun for swap meets, camping, around camp transportation.

 

Basically a powered Ride Rider.

Super interesting. I thought the Lunar Rover kind of reminded me of the mule. I really like the metal tires. They were woven wire like piano wire so they could run over rocks. It was all electric. Looks like a wild ride.
One of the astronauts said that if they carried new batteries, they could drive it now.
