Quick Hose Routing Question

    I have a 304 V8. The hose coming from the back of the intake Manifold and goes to the heater core, .... top fitting or bottom fitting, and the other goes to the water pump. but ...... Assistance please.

    Bottom hose goes to the water pump. There is no valve and water is always Flowing through the core. The damper doors direct the air through
    the coil. Technically doesn't matter except you always have heat in the dash area. An inline valve, manual or cable. would keep the heat out.

    Any general thoughts on pros or cons with adding a shutoff valve or leaving it open all time? Just wondered if leaving it open all the time helps with any circulation for cooling.

    I have left mine open, when traveling and pulling a trailer up hill, I will turn the heater on full to help keep things cool. .... sometimes it helps. :shrug:

    I have a cable operated valve on mine and the coil still gets hot when closed. The water still conducts heat to the coil. That said, ball valves in both lines would prevent that.
    The valves should be opened periodically to flush the lines and coil. The heater can be used to help with an overheating problem. What has me curious, is how much water is
    flowing through the bypass hose on the V6. Enough to keep the thermostat from opening and the engine from not reaching temperature? Enough to keep the heater from
    not putting out warm air? Suggesting to add a restriction in the bypass hose. I remember reading suggestions of drilling a hole in the thermostat for flow.
