Orig. Gas Tank Color?

    Just now got my slightly use NOS tank from bob-n who posted it for sale on the board. It's in excellent shape and has a new sending unit in it.

    My question is what was the origonal color? Were they black or painted the body color. Bob had it painted white over what looks like "parts house grey".

    I've never seen them body color - pretty sure black or seems like some early ones were still olive drab yet.

    Thanks, Mike. It seems to me that they were black also but can't remember. Sort of like the windshield frames and tail lights.. Most just got painted body color at repaint time.

    Since I'm going to have to have the return line fitting brazed in, it's going to get repainted anayway.

    I'm fairly certain they were originally painted black.

    My early '66/V6 tank certainly came black - was new when I bought her.
