Ok I was in the process and finished getting together a new tranny combo swap for my 2a when I found this washer stuck to my cardboard. Shown laying on page. I think it is the Thrust washer # 44. Can some tell me if I'm right, it measures 1 1/2 od and 1 1/8 id. I've let it sit long enough and its time to park it for awhile and do the tranny swap

Looks like a bearing spacer that goes in the intermediate shaft to me. Too big to be one for the cluster gear in the tranny I believe. If I remember correctly there are four of those.

Ok I have tore it apart again, I know it came out of dana 18 and not the trans. looks like the only place it would fit is on the front or rear output shafts. could it have gone between the speedo drive gear and the yoke? It will not slide to the bearing face as the output shaft is slightly bigger there.

That's not #44 as #44 has two tangs towards the middle that fit in the grooves of the output shaft. Too small for a 1 1/4" intermediate shaft transfer case. I don't remember there being one between the caged bearings on the 1 1/8" intermediate but that's a possibility. No spacer like that on an 18 output between the yoke and speedo gear. There is one like that used in the 20 transfer case on the front output.

How "thick" is it ? Could it be the spacer behind the bull gear ? The one that goes on the trans output shaft before you slip the bull gear on ?

There isn't one there. On many Jeep tranny's, like T-90, T-86, T-14, etc. there is one between the transmission output bearing and main shaft but not between the transfer case input gear and transmission output bearing. Plus he has a different transmission, looks like an SM-465 from what I can see. It could be left over from a different transmission though.

Thanks for the help, it a np 435 trans, I'm sure it came of of one of the output shafts on the transfercase, because I was resealining the outputs and checking the over all condition and never removed the intermediate gear, sliding gear or output shaft gear. Now I'm thinking maybe it was with the speedo gear add by PO. its kind of polished and on the speedo gear looks like it may have been up againist it. So dose it belong there?

Its a little hard to see in photo but I think this is where it was. The wear can be seen where it sat.

Looks like someone was trying to shim it. The 20 transfer cases used shims like that on the rear output against the speedo gear to set bearing clearance. I wonder if it was stuck to the speedo drive gear and someone installed the gear from a 20 in your 18? That would explain a lot. The 18 doesn't use shims there, so unless there ends up being a clearance issue (wear on the speedo drive gear), no reason to have it in there.

Need to correct my own post. I forgot that T-14's do have the spacer between the rear bearing and transfer case gear. They are different than T-90's that way.

I would contact Herm's Overdrive, he can tell you exactly where it goes and what it goes to.
