I have a 1967 cj5 v-6. I removed inspection floor panel. I can't get 1'' wrench on square cap no room to do anything. Need to add brake fluid.

Square? You can use an 8-point-point socket with a long extension and a universal joint, from under the hood.

Or buy a cheap wrench and bend it to suit, if you have a torch. Maybe a ratchet extension and a "crow's foot" wrench would work. On occasion I have managed with water-pump pliers or Visegrip pliers

BE GENTLE - the caps are hollow zinc and the hex (or square?) breaks off easily!

A 1" wrench? my 69 has a 1\2" bolt holding the cap on. I lay under the jeep and use a 1\2" socket to take the bolt out of the cap. works fine

A large crescent may work unless it was last tightened 50 years ago by a gorilla-

OK lets try again. I removed plate on drivers floor pan between clutch and brake pedals. Right next to the frame and the bell housing is the cyl. I cannot get any wrenches from above, from underneath,or next to the cap so that I can add brake fluid. I have not tried a 8-point socket yet. A large crescent wrench would never fit

I carefully use adjustable pliers and give a short tap to the pliers then I undue by hand.
the crescent wrench sometimes doesn't fit all the time. I don't understand that.

I originally had a plastic cap, with half of the top broken. wasn't me, but that was near impossible.

pressing down while doing this helps a lot too.

12 point socket would be the best way as others mentioned

Thanks,I finally got it! I removed one brake line and two bolts and removed the master. I have a '63 that has the plastic cap also. Complete removal wasn't that bad

"12 point socket would be the best way.."

Except it has very little bearing area on the four corners of the cap. 8-Point is less likely to round them off.

What I need to do now is weld a hex nut on it so I can get a socket on it next time.

Check the metal - mine have all been zinc or some kind of white "pot" metal.
