Thinking about going with a different set of wheels and tires and wanted see if anyone had any opinion on 15" verses 16" wheels. I am currently running 15 X 8" rims with 33x9.5x15 tires, narrow track Dana 30 front axle. I think 33x11.5x15 would be the perfect size but of course you can't find that size anymore. So I was thinking of going to a 16" rim for more tire size options. Anyone else gone through the same thought process and how did it work out?
    Thanks

You can till get 33x10.50s. Likely to be my next tire. Just wide enough to fill the fender area but, not so wide as to need flares.

I used to have 32x11.50x15's. I am now running 33x10.50x15's. Work just fine and rub in all the same places as the old tires. I personally would stay away from 16" rims, but just my $.02.

I have the 33 10.5 BFG MT's on my A1, and I think it's the perfect size. I thought about going to 16" rims, but it added significantly to the cost for both tire and rim. I have the Dana 25 in the front for now, but a narrow track drum brake 30 is in the garage with 5.38 and a TruTrac ready for me to have time to do the swap.

If I was buying new rims, which I might once my 30x9.50x15s wear out, I would buy 17" rims . Tire sizes seem much varied for the 17" rim.

I have a set of 15 X 7 rims with 29" TSLs. They are OK. I also have a set of factory 16" X 4.5" rims. I am going to have the centers set in 6" or 7" 16" bands and run 235/85/R16 MTs or MTRs. I like the taller moderately narrow look and traction. Running 255/85/R16 Toyo M55s on my 80 Series Landcruiser and really like them.

33x10.5x15 would be my choice, sadly i got a killer deal on some almost brand new 33x12.5x15 BFG km2's so i went with them, but i'd trade in a heartbeat if i had the choice. i paid $400 for the 4 and they were only used for about 5,000 miles, they have pretty much new tread.

I would stay away from 17in wheels unless 35s or greater and/or big discs are gonna be used. 33s or smaller need all the sidewall you can get to look good. The large wheel low pro tire look doesn't work on old jeeps. That's my 2ยข. Having said that, I'm running 37in tires with 17in wheels!

Mine came with fat 16" rims, with a set of well-worn 265/75R16s (31.6x10.43x16) ... which I wasn't happy with, because they tended to get hung up in the usual places. Currently, I'm running 235/85R16s (31.7x9.25x16,) and I think they look good, handle well (including on the nasty thunderstorm-carved dirt roads that abound here,) and the front springs aren't trying to hack chips off the edges anymore.

Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it. I'm leaning towards the 33x10.5x15. I have after market black spokes that I believe are 8" with a 4" backspace. Would rather not use a spacer. Anyone see a problem with the front tires rubbing?

They tick on the springs a touch on my rig and will rub the inside of the rear wheel well when flexed hard (holbrooks). No other issues that I see with them.

Mine don't rub on the springs, but I still have the non-turning Dana 25 closed knuckle axle in there. They will slightly rub the tub in the rear like Warloch says "when really flexed hard".

    I have 33x12.5x15. I wanted 17" rims but I couldn't find the right offset. I finally bought 15x8" rims with 3 3/4" offset.

I use photobucket and than on right side of screen you will see the img code. Click then paste,

    Flickr is basically same way.

I'm using phone at moment so I might have you wrong name for code but process is same. These both are a pretty simple way of adding pictures to the thread.
