I have a Perkins P4 in the garage and have been doing some research on the engine. As far as I can tell the P4, 4.192, and 4.203 are the same engine family. The Jeep specific parts are tough to find, but Perkins and others still make parts for these engines. They were also used in Massey Ferguson 65 tractors and other applications. As others stated, definitely get it running in the 5 first before swapping. I suspect, there would be a lot more hassles and gremlins if you swapped it into the 6 then got it running. Compostwerks, also a member here, sent me a list of Jeep specific parts I can send you. Just PM me your email address.

Had a great time at an off road area called Liberty (near the town of Liberty) this past weekend. Wheeled both Saturday and Sunday. No issues saturday, but sunday we ended up doing a mini rebuild of the starter that morning. There is a collar on the end of the bendix that came loose which left the gear engaged to the flywheel until we pinned it back into place with the end of a cotter key. Anyways....Great time!

This is the way to use a Jeep. Happiness.
Why not offer her some nice paint, she deserves it!

Installed the Dual Matic OD this weekend with shifter from Herm. Seems to work well, there are some definite small differences between the Warn and the Dual Matic...... Just like the Perkins diesel in the Jeep, info on the Dual Matic is hard to come by as well... They are a perfect match. It dropped the RPM's from "screaming" at freeway speeds to a much more respectable 2100 rpm at 69mph on flat ground. It can't overcome the aerodynamics to go any faster. =)

If a moderator sees fit, maybe this should move to the builds forum along with my cage thread too?

Lots of work to do this weekend. Corner guards, sliders, spare tire carrier, etc. After I pick it up from the exhaust shop today. =)

love this, great build, keeping it simple . Just one complaint the alum wheels got to go. Was wondering what trans your running ? and did they come with different trans options? Also were tthere any major differences from the cj perkins to the j truck engines a junk yard i go to has a complete (as of the last time i looked ) perkins set up in it . and what was the proplems you mentioned early in your post were the block was repaired .Sorry for all the Quistions thank you

I'm not sticking with the aluminum wheels forever but I had them already and they were doing nothing. It has a T-90 trans and I don't believe you could get the T-98 with the Diesel from the factory. I have no idea of the differences between a J truck perkins and CJ. Wasn't even aware they were in J trucks. I can't imagine this little engine powering a J truck tho. Mine seems to have lost a rod at some point and went through the side of the block and oil pan. There are pictures near the beginning of this thread.

Also did corners and a slightly modified OR Fab swing out tire carrier.
