Small Denso alternator?

    Well the free alternator that I got is starting to go out. It's a clone of a Delco Remy 70 amp alternator. I was wondering if anyone is running a small denso alternator like this one?

    Size and room the Denso alternators are tiny and don't take up alot of space.

    Not sure about tiny but smaller yes. That said, are you actually that cramped for space? The Delco 10 SI/12 SI are pretty much dirt cheap, available anywhere, and usually will last longer than at least 2 rebuilds on a F134. I would be just replacing your existing one with another-a 15 minute job with no bracket alterations. If you need more amps, go for the 94 amp 12 SI.

    Ok well I tested the voltage from the alternator today with a volt meter and it is only putting out 12.53 volts. I raised the throttle alittle and the voltage went to 14.00 volts. I have a three inch pulley on the alternator and I think since the jeep is idling at 680 rpm the alternator is spinning to slow causing it to not charge. I have been searching around and found some people are running 2.5 inch pulleys to increase the speed of the alternators. I have found a few I have been looking at but I am unsure of which pulley to buy.

    Could always increase the idle speed a little.

    One wire alternator? These won't start charging until you goose the throttle a bit but once going should be fine.


    Honestly I wouldn't worry about it- unless you've run the battery right down from failed start attempts it only takes a few moments to restore it's charge once the engine comes off idle. If you're concerned because you're running a winch you should probably have a hand throttle.

    So uh, are you saying the 63A alternator will fit the bracketry used for the factory 6-volt generator on an early CJ-5?
