I just purchased a 66 cj5 thats has been "restored" at somepoint in the past 49 years. It has a 225 Oddfire and a later model intake and rochester Dualjet have been put in place. The previous restore redid the floors in a style all there own. I think what happened was they cannibalized a later cj5 or cj5 body. The gas pedal sitting forward of the brake and clutch by alot and is so far off the floor its almost even with the top of the gas tank. Can somebody give me a picture of what it is supposed to look like? Pictures to follow

Edit: Yes its very much a project.

My 1968 has same floating pedal as ur 1966! The 1970 and later fixed to floor I would think is easier to regulate throttle!

I'm going to try and switch to the later style. Thanks for the info. I wonder how the PO checked break fluid level too. Judging by how the brakes work currently I'll guess it never happened.

My 70 has the hanging pedal too...but I don't think it's as high as yours.
Might be as simple as adjusting the throttle linkage.
You definitely need a way to check the brake fluid though!

Yep, that is the stock pedal. That said, even in the stock position, they plain suck-especially in the rocks. No way to keep an even throttle application. That one does appear to be positioned more towards the rear than I remember but rather than trying to adjust it, I would suggest going to a floor mounted pedal.

Do a search. There are a number of threads on this issue, including this one:

it looks like they straighten it our. Mine has a curve but is still not the best. I wish it was more like the 71.

What about heating it and bending a S shape? That would lower the pedal and move it closer to the front. Just have to leave enough room to stomp on the gas!
