Owner's Workshop Manual Suggestions?

    Hi all,

First-time poster. New to the Jeep scene. Just bought what appears to be a very solid 1966 CJ5.

I'm getting into Jeeps after a few years of fixing up motorcycles. I decided it'd be fun to have an auto to tinker with (and I wanted a off-road vehicle, so....). Anyway, I know from my moto experience that for every scene such as this one, there are usually one or two Workshop Manuals that have reached near biblical proportions for their users. For example, I learned almost everything I needed to know about my old BMW from a single Haynes publication.

Do you all have any suggestions?

(I apologize if there's a thread about this... still learning how to search around here).

    Thanks very much!

    Welcome:)

The go-to book for jeeps is the Factory Service Manual (FSM).

Reprints are available from many different sources, here's one at one of the better parts suppliers-

Haynes manuals get very little love around here- they cover so many different iterations that they're just too broad.

Go to the introductions section & tell us a bit more about yourself & your jeep- that'll help us help you more better :D

    Or something.

Yes, haynes and chilton are no good..... unless they are. The best parts of the Chilton that i had was where they copied the FSM . It got me thorough and was alright. Have fun with your new jeep.

Welcome and X2 on getting the FSM, also a good illustrated parts breakdown will help as well. A word of caution, once you go Jeep there is no going back. It is a life long affliction of the good kind.
