Giving Up On Brakes

    As you can see in the picture I used the copper washers with no problem. Would recommend this part as a win once you get it installed. mike:)

    Used the copper washers, no leaks on either side of the banjo fitting, looks to be only where the brake line goes. I suspect brass is not the ideal material to mate with the steel brake line, as it may deform too much. I note that modern vehicles don't use brass in these parts.

    I suspect low quality brass is a problem of late. Whatever is used has to be soft enough to "give" a bit.

    OK, got the dual outlet from KaiserWillys. Doesn't fit. wrong thread. Apparently my brake line ends have a different (slightly larger) thread than this new brass piece. Plus I could not find a proper plug. Auto parts or hardware store either look at you funny or can't help. I am at my wits end here. I have wasted lots of money on a brake line kit for this year jeep that is basically worthless. As a CJ6 I would expect the long line to the back would be to short, as noone offers a kitt for the CJ6. But none of the other lines fit. Either wrong bends, too short & wrong thread to match my brass junctions. WTF?? I simply cannot get this done!
    Has no one else has this issue?? I find that hard to believe. Making brake lines is a PITA to get all the bends right, that is why I bought a kit!

    Where did you get the kit? What size are you brake lines?

    I purchased a brake line kit from KaiserWillys for CJ5, knowing that the long line would be too short, but that line was fine on my jeep. The lines supplied in the kit are using 3/16" brake line, mine were 1/4". The fittings on the ends look very close in size but are just a bit smaller - I suspect they are metric 10mm, NOT 3/8" 24 thread. Looks like I need to replace ALL the brake lines, but I still need to interface to the existing wheel cylinder parts, so will have to use a mix of metric & SEA fittings. Not sure if the tubing can be 3/16" everywhere due to the fitting sizes that are needed. this is TRULY a PITA, and really do not know how to proceed.

    Actually ALL the brass parts need to change as well, as the outlet Y from the master is "some unknown" thread pitch and my existing lines & fittings don't fit - it will be a similar issue for all remaining fittings up front & in the rear. And I cannot find the proper brass fittings for this jeep. I need a four outlet one up front & three outlet in the rear. So I am looking elsewhere in specialty supply. The jeep vendors are apparently WORTHLESS.

    Wow! I thought the M/C fitting was the only thing you needed. Have you tried Walck's 4WD for parts? Do the wheel cylinder lines connect good? I think I'd get a couple of loose fittings and verify the size for the wheel cylinders and master cylinder size and maybe start over.
