My '69 had a chunk of wood. It rusted the bloody hell out of the rear quarter.

I could not for the life of me figure out the thought process that went into believing that a piece of wood captive in the body support (or anywhere for that matter) was a brilliant idea.

I think Donny was referring to these. They keep the spare a little more stable so the carrier doesn't wig wag and break out the metal on the fender.

The red one is the 65. I used clear oak when I replaced it. The original was rotted and had carriage bolts.

My January '67 build date and my '69 both used the mushroom head bolt. I think the wood block went away earlier. Not to be confused with the wood inside the hat channels, which was present until the intermediates came about as far as I know.

Edit- oops, you beat me to it.

    Rainy day stuff today

I painted the raised letters using a roller, the trick is to pour a little paint on some cardboard and roll the roller (dry). Then I used a Q tip with some thinners on it to clean up the edges. Need to touch up the J a bit with an artist brush

    Some stuff I did today

So today I painted the logo on the tailgate using the stencil

1st attempt I got a lot of bleeding so I wiped it off and tried again but this time I used magnets to hold the stencil down and it worked good

Something didn't look right to me so I went on walcks site where I got the stencil and in the description it said to tape off the "jeep" for CJs grrr
So out with the lacquer thinner

    That's better

Sandblasted and painted the chains and put new covers on

This paint is pretty good for making it look like bare metal

    For you Focker

That looks great. When I saw the first pic of the stencil I thought, guess you need to tape off the Jeep logo .

So when does the new rubber go on?
