Put a new solex carb in my (new to me) 65 cj5 it is a 134f head. I was able to get it running, which it runs rough at idle. as soon as you hit the gas the jeep immediately stalls. This was happening when I bought the jeep, and upon inspection of the carb I found that the ethanol had solidified the accelerator pump. rock hard. I thought that the new carb would remedy the problem. to my surprise it actually seems worse. with the old carb I could move the jeep at idle, now it stalls immediately.

How do I time the jeep? could it be timing, or should I worry about compression. I am in a cold climate, and it is stuck outside.

Im hoping it is not compression related.....Changed the oil and it is black almost immediately, also changed the plugs.

also, is the "enrichment" lever on the new carb a choke??

Could be almost anything, a lose hose, a gasket leak, poor points, timing, etc, etc. Or wrong carb settings.

Any diagnosis is guesswork unless the tune-up specs are verified first - timing, points, etc. Simple skills well worth learning. You should a have a Factory Service Manual.

Next, search this site's archive - these questions come up repeatedly with Solexes.

Lots of solex are lean on the squirt? Adj linkage so fuel squirts just as soon as u barley move the gas pedal.
Also adjust the air screw for high idle.
With good gas and fresh tune, u can advance timing to 10btdc. This helps off idle response.
If it ant benn done in a while, newplugs, points, cond, cap, rotar and wires are a wise investment also.if it's set a long time, be sure nothing has built a nest in the exhaust.
    Good luck!
