1555971745762-779007081.jpg Here's a core from that milk crate where we toss non-working speedometers, nearly used tins of Turtle Wax, and starter solenoids that still work sometimes. You know, "the good stuff". Not that my 55A Motorcraft has caused me trouble, but I'm about to put in a new harness so now is the time to make decisions.

Spacing looks right so far ad I can tell except the fulcrum hole in the alternator is too wide to fit the factory bracket.

What do the cool kids do to make these fit? No idea what output of this particular unit. We're at the "conceptualizing" phase. Well past "ideating", though. I did that earlier today (went great).

Pretty crappy looking alternator. I would cut the alternator. If you have a friend with a mill, that would be the neatest method.

'78-on AMC 360s came from Jeep with 10SIs. Just thought you should know. That bracket style ends in '74. Unfortunately I think you won't find the brackets you really want, which are from a Jeep without AC.

Do you weld and fabricate? Two "L" shaped angle steel lengths COULD make the new alternator bracket "C" instead of milling the alternator case. If that alternator fails in the future you have to mill the future alternator case too.

That MNJ671 is looking pretty bad. Sure you want to use this old untested unit to modify?

Heck no, I'm not using THAT alternator. It's low on aluminium, high on aluminum oxide. Its a core if I decide to use a 10SI. I may go with 12SI though. I have a Bellevue winch I may put on someday, and rewiring the entire Jeep so will go big on charging circuit wiring. Figure the higher capacity will come in handy someday. Also replacing ammeter with voltmeter.

Had a dandy welder but delivered it back to the owner so I'm without one. I still have access to one. I think I'll adapt that bracket. Need to buy a small MIG. Too much work yet to do.

Being a man of action I bought a 140A MIG during lunch. Back in action! It's 120V so I can weld at the dining room table. Over some cold chicken, perhaps.

Food for thought if you wanted some pre-fab'd set ups. March Performance has a set up for an AMC 304 that might work and same with CVF Racing. I used the March performance on my '67 Chevelle with a water pump and power steering from O'Reilly's instead of their's. Had to shim the pullies a little with washers, but overall worked out great.

Those are some nice looking brackets! But would look way out of place on mine. And I did just buy a welder...

I just installed the same alternator on mine. I cut one end of the mounting bracket and welded in a extention. I'll try to post a picture. It's a tight fit with the bigger alternator. Almost hits the oil filter so I did a little grinding on the bottom of my alternator to make it work.

Here's what I did. Hard to see but I just cut off one side, made an extension and welded back on.

i just recently upgraded my alternator and spent the cash and got a 150 amp powermaster alternator... love this thing and kinda glad I spent the money in buying it. Best part it fits in the stock brackets with no modifications and works wonders on my charging system... no more battery drain from my stereo or dim headlights when im driving at night.

You know, having considered this longer I think I'm going for the Powermaster. I'd spend a Saturday messing with the bracket, it wouldnt look as nice when complete. I'll just go with Powermaster one wire. Rewiring anyhow so can clean up the whole shebang.

I'm a fan of the 12SI or CS130 alternator. Avoid the one wire alternators, they tend to have dumb regulators that are not available everywhere.
