I just bought a 67 cj5. It no longer has a top or doors nor any of the associated hardware. Would any of you have pictures to post so i can see how the hardware is installed especially where the hinges go? TIA!

Jeeps of this era never had factory installed tops, and each brand of top had different style hinges.

I believe "never" is not correct. There was "Jeep Approved Special Equipment" that you could buy through the Jeep parts distribution network. Most or all of that stuff could be delivered with the vehicle. Certainly hard tops could be factory installed, and I vaguely recall you could buy a soft top with the Jeep and it came in a box banded to the vehicle. May have come with the bows installed ... not sure.

The dealership I worked at never ordered factory installed equipment if they could install it at point-of-sale. Firstly, it was a theft risk in transport (esp. winches!) and the factory was very sloppy in their installation of this equipment. Better to configure the Jeep to the customers liking when it was sold, and all those features easily could be rolled in to the purchase financing.

If you buy a replacement top, it will come with the hinges and all the hardware for installation, with instructions for proper placement. No two installations turn out exactly the same, so it's unlikely you will be able to reuse all of the snaps and holes from the previous top.

    First post! Welcome from Boston!

Search in the restoration/research forum here - I recall someone scanned and posted soft top instructions at some point.

Haven't pictures been posted before with hard tops on Jeeps at the factory, or coming from the factory?

Yes, I think so. There are members (myself included) that own Jeeps with factory installed hard tops. Any hard top with plates instead of windshield catches was factory installed.

We could ask the congregation. Not in error, but I don't know how far back the practice extends.

I have a 70 with a factory Myers full cab. No latches and no windshield bumpers on the hood.

Some CJ5's with "factory" hardtops have the dash welded to the body instead of the 1/4-20 bolts around the perimeter. I have seen two different hardtop Jeeps with the welded dash.
Anyone else ever seen a welded dash before?

My 1960 dash is also welded, it still has windshield latches. steel sides plastic roof dj looking doors that hinge forward on a piano hinge. the hard top does not allow for the windshield wiper pivot guards. Also had a hi-lo jeep pump but the plow was made locally.

    Billy,

Might these photos help? I sold my top and all these parts, but took pics before I removed. These were on my '62 CJ5:

Hmmm. So my '66 Tuxedo, which retains the chrome hood latch at the top of the windshield, had it's Meyers hardtop installed at the dealer?

Very interesting. Never knew this. Kind of makes sense though. Always learning something here.
