I went to clear my first street legal long road trip. Put a few miles on it. I don't like how squirrely the steering gets up at about 45 miles an hour. I'm going to start looking into repairing the Ross Box. Check out all the linkages and all that goody good stuff. Brakes are amazing. The Geo disc brake conversion paired with a master cylinder, for the win!
I parked in front of Whistling Straits Golf Course to take my picture. You should have seen the looks I was getting from all the high-end Vehicles leaving there! Resized_Resized_20190619_175343(1)003.jpeg

Drove by there many years ago. We were having some dies built in Iron Ridge and we went from there to Port Washington for dinner at the Old Hotel. Beautiful scenery up there.

no more progress to be reported on this for awhile i'm afraid. wife wants to drive it instead of me always working on it, so its going to the cabin for the season. i wanted to do a few more things with it, but oh well. if she insists she has to drive it, who am i to bother? now, where did i put that FC...:D

    so to recap...
body is structurally sound. was hoping to paint it all one NOT YELLOW color, but oh well.
    new battery
all new fuel parts. tank, to lines, to carb rebuild.
all new brakes, disked, all around, new lines MC, ETC.
all new wire harness front to back.
    electronic ignition, with plugs/wires ETC
    toyota starter
    new seats
    new rims and tires
    changed all the fluids everywhere
other than cosmetics, i like it. good enough for a north woods beater. everything is dependable enough i believe.
happy wife=happy life. we bought it for her over a year ago. i understand why she is getting anxious about driving it.

    wanted to do yet:
    new radiator/hoses
    Warn lockout hubs
notch the driver seat back a scooch more. its touching my belly. but, it aint my jeep, and i wont be driving, so i guess it don't matter to me much.

anything you guys think i should look at replacing before its up north? nearest parts store is about 100 miles from anywhere. so if breaks down, its there until i get to town to buy a part and get back up north....

Bring the points with it if the electronic ignition fails you have a back up plan.

So, I've put about 100+ miles on some rough and easy trails.
All went well, it was pretty awesome. Alternator is bad though. New battery died towards the end of our last trail ride. Thought it was the lack of fuel. turned out to be lack of current. Bring jumper cables on a trail ride, people!:schooled:

some of our ride, clocked through the Avenza app. its syncs up local maps with your GPS.
tells you how many miles you've been on, you can plan routes, drop pins to revisit later, save liked trips and routes, etc.
and an action shot. dont look like much, but this was a STEEP boulder.

again....oldest jeep on the ride, stock, and no lockers or anything special, and i went through everything the big jeeps did with out any issues.

And doesn't that feel good? You are allowed to keep that silly little grin for as long as you like. :)

picked up a set of warrior 1/2" lift shackles. wanted to replace the wimpy, stock ones.
doing this up at a cabin with no proper tools isn't easy.
found that the original bushings in the shackle hangers at the front of the frame were too rotted out to chance pounding out the original bolt, so i buttoned it all back up until i get a set of suspension bushings. crap. just my luck.

also, need to change the axle seals. after the disk brake conversion all was well. came back in the spring to put a battery in it, and noticed 2 puddles of oil, front passenger side, and rear drivers side.

other than that, it fired right up.

Finally got around to installing the new shackles. Had to replace the bushings in the frame. Thanks @Rick Whitson for the bushings. Fit like a bushing should!

Update....the new leaf spring kit sucks. I'd avoid rough country springs. A year after install, with winter storage just sitting included, the jeep now leans/sags to the passenger side 1.75 inches. During the covid pandemic of 2020 I took my 10day quarantine time and swapped them, drivers side springs to passenger side springs. Brought the jeep back to level. But what happens next year, when its sags again?

Took this jeep up to the cabin for the season. Backed it off of the car trailer and it just started puking oil. Oh no! The oil line at the back of the motor broke where it attaches to the side of the engine block.

    No tools+no parts=CRAP.

Thankfully my friend lives about 5 miles away, had spare brake lines and fittings, pipe cutter and flare kit. Made a few trips back and forth to get tools and parts.
A 3 hour job and a half a tank of diesel later for a job that would normally take 30 minutes....nothing much to update on this. Still like beating on it.

Oh yeah, to access the oil line I had to remove the heater thingamajig. Now I'll have to put some steel plate over the hole.

Well, it's been a fun run, but I'm kicking this can down the road. Too many jeeps, time to thin the herd. Based on what I've done, ya'll think 3k is a good asking price?

Being realistic here. This is a mechanically sound jeep with many new parts.
