You could mount a fire extinguisher or something like that to it if you don’t remove it (y)

Yep, had some purpose for the PO. Repurpose it or remove it. BTW the Jeep dealer would install these bars with the front end of the angle iron base just touching the tube for the top bow; ie about 6" further back. At that location, the bushings supplied with the bar that go between the body sides and the angle iron would be the right length to prevent crushing the body when tightening the bolts. Up to you, but that's where I would put it.

I believe it was a flex hose that ran up directly to the heater core with fresh air. Perfect spot for your horn!

My guess is they are QC tracking data on the original casting process, at the foundry. Possibly a time or date code?

I 2nd this. Back in my foundry days, all of the inspectors had a stamp that they would put into the Bell housings or engine holders or whatever casting we were inspecting.
The die-cast machines had an individual marking on it so you know what shift and machine made the peace, if multiple machines were making the same part

Run code from the foundry mold. Could be date or series with modification. The foundry molds I have are from the Everett Foundry are before this type markings...

All made out of straight grain cedar. Just a few. Each color means a different thing, black is the sand cashing surface. The Everett Foundry close a few years ago and sold off the century old foundry molds from steam engines to forestry and mining castings...

:flag:The one on the left looks very similar to the the " Proportioning Valve " from GM. It was cast. Prone to rusting 'cuz of placement on certain models. even recalled back in the early 90's. Now they are milled Brass .... Interesting post of American manufacturing history . Thanks , Cap-n

Pattern-making was/is a very interesting and highly skilled variety of woodworking. Especially before digital cad/cam and etc.

Trying to clean out my spring pivot eyes, and I can't tell if I have the bushing stuck in there or if I'm looking at the thickness of the tube itself? I pressed out the thin bushing, and scraped out the rubber - is there one more layer? Looking at the replacement part from KW I think so but I was wondering what you guys think?

Front & Rear Leaf Spring Pivot Eye Bushing (For Non Greasable Bolt) Fits 53-71 CJ-3B, 5

And while I'm at it - does that weld look original or Bubba-made?

I believe that piece comes out yet, at least it did on mine (I just did this). The middle sleeve comes out, along with the rubber, then the outer part of the bushing needs to come out yet. It’s a pain. Attached is a picture of old vs new. I got all of my hardware from KW as well.[IMG]
