I can’t seem to find reference to the bolt or fitting that connects the round eye of the MC pushrod to the brake pedal shaft. I have the original 72 cj5 brake and clutch pedals but this had been removed when I bought the project. Does anyone know a part number or would any bolt with a few washers and a locknut do?

The eye in the push rod fits over a post on the pedal arm. If the PO has pushed the post out of the pedal arm, they've pretty much ruined the pedals. There's no service part for that. As I recall, there's a clip or such that keeps the push rod on the post.

Maybe that post can be machined? It doesn't look too hard with the right tools

Don't forget the pushrod bushing! I couldn't find one marketed for our Jeeps but it turns out it's the same as the ones for 1965-2004 Mustangs.

Well, as luck would have it, I must have looked at it wrong. I thought there was a bolt that had been sheared off. But, I see where the post you describe is still there. I’ll just need to find some type of clip to use as a retainer. Thank you so much for the tip on the bushing. I would’ve been searching for a long time to try to find a solution. Now I just need to find a good diagram of the rest of the return springs and things that I am missing. I can’t tell you guys how much help this forum has been. I’ve been reading posts for months getting ready to attack my powertrain now that I’m done with the body finally.

The brake light switch slides over the post and pushrod and then the clip.

The bushing is PN 3215922; you're probably better off looking for the Mustang part. The retainer is an ordinary cotter pin.

A few years back I had a problem with that pin had become excessively worn. I removed the brake pedal assy from the jeep. ground the pin off flat to the shaft, drilled a hole thru where the pin had been and used a shouldered bolt thru the hole and spot welded the bolt head on the back of the pedal shaft. vola new pin with a nylon insert lock nut. used a grade 8 bolt. If I remember correctly I had to put the bolt in a lath and trim off a little to make it the same diam as the orginal pin was. If you want you could get fancy and use a castle nut and drill a cotter pin hole. been working for years now ,no problem. I do grease it occasionally with a little spray white lube.
