YouTube is the best (after ecj5). The carrier was tight and prying it our wasn’t working. Saw a video of a guy placed a rag on the ring gear and turned the shaft. Rag forces carrier out when it gets back to pinion gear! Had to run rag thru a couple times but it really made the removal easy.

    I used a bearing splitter/puller....

the 2 side bearings on the case and the inner pinon bearing on the pinon gear shaft :bananatool:. Used a bearing splitter on a puller set-up (and a little heat):

Got the bearings off. One with heat and a bearing puller the other I had to cut into and hit with cold chisel and BFH.

I use the bearing splitter and my HF 20 ton press. Easy peassie. Just installed a power lok front and rear. Both purchased here. A little tougher steering with the Ross box and a 27 front axle.

Keep track of the shims and which shims came off which side.

    Thick Ring gear Dana44 & #’s .3.jpg That's the one I got on sale.....110 Bucks !

Also......Like James says, Make sure that you get a shim kit & replace each side with the exact thickness that was under each bearing that you R & R. I did not get that right & ruined a brand new bearing that I had pressed on without any.

I just reused the shims that were there. Same shims same side. A bunch of pounding with a large plastic mallet to get carrier back in place.

    Leaving it alone until tomorrow.

Makes a huge difference off road, also makes turning with hubs locked in much more difficult, but it's worth it. (y) What do you have in the rear?
