I ordered a brand new bestop supertop and they sent it with CJ7 side belt rails. This is the piece on the sides of the tub that locates the bow assembly as well as the door strike. Well I let them know and bestop sent me new side belt rails...and they sent CJ7 part number again...plus they're snarky as can be. So I have decided to cut and modify the CJ7 parts to fit my CJ5. Can anyone take a quick measure of the total length of their side rails and distance between door striker rear most hole (there are two) and bow assembly front most hole (there are two). Much appreciated!!!

In this picture you can see the two measurements I need. Total length and then between the two inner holes. Thanks! IMG_8276.jpg

    Howdy!

I went out and measured the length on our 1969 CJ-5 and they are 34 inches from the point where it meets the rear corner, to the front where the striker plate is. It does run under the plate.

The distance between the two holes you referenced is 2 inches center to center.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks! Oh wow only 2" lol...the CJ-7 one has a ton of length between the rear striker hole and the front top mount hole...off to the races to fix this.

Looks like I measured the wrong set of holes on the bracket, as I measured the ones straddling the old factory bracket.

    My apologies.

The side belt rail on mine measures 33 5/8 " & it butts up to the corner belt rail. no gap. The distance between door striker rear most hole & bow assembly front hole is 5 1/2 "... center - on- center. My Top fits perfectly.

Does anyone mind measuring how much rail there is at the front edge of rail to center of first door striker bolt? I just want to be sure my door striker bolts are places appropriately in the front.

Interesting about the gap because I have seen it both ways. In the instructions it says there will be a gap of approximately 1/4” from the corner rail and the straight rail. The only thing I can see what it would change is where the top main bow tensioning bar is on the vinyl top itself. The door striker plate can be adjusted for travel slightly when setting how the door latch operates.

When the striker plate cuts your left elbow it is in the right place. Good Luck.

Thanks to everyone. Today I modify the side rails and install my top finally. After spending $1100+ I was hoping everything would fit. Unfortunately bestop is the only source for non military tops.

I have a 10+ year old complete Bestop Supertop that came with my Jeep. The previous owner used a harsh pad on the soft vinyl windows and scratch them up.

I was going to try and polish out the scratches but got a brand new Supertop ( $1100 dollars ) instead. There’s definitely a difference in the quality of the hardware on the new, which is a shame. The vinyl top is still exactly the same quality (y)
