I think the body is finally nearing completion. It looks like a lot of filler, but it really isn’t. I’d be surprised if there is any single spot on this that is over 1/16” thick. I got it pretty flat And very tight before I added any filler. Definitely not perfect, but it’s the limit of my patience for body work.

I brought the old crusty windshield frame from the 3b in today to steal the soft top channel off of it. The frame is so rusted, if I ever rebuild that Jeep, I wouldn’t be using that frame, so no loss.

I drilled out the spot welds to find lots of east coast crud.

I cut the upper lip off of the channel, formed it into a bow, and welded it to the top of the 3a windshield frame.

When I was out in town yesterday, I stopped by the auto paint place and grabbed some epoxy primer. Hopefully the weather will break long enough to get this thing outside for a coating this weekend.

This morning, I was crawling around the tub, spot blasting any last spots of paint or rust I couldn’t reach with the wire wheel when I noticed the drivers floor had a new oil can. It must’ve popped up when I welded the pedal box and rock slider rail from underneath.

I got the torch out and spot-shrank it to get it flat again...

...but now my floor panel doesn’t line up. I’ll have to weld a few of these holes shut and re-drill/tap them. It’s hard to see, but the floor is bolted at the firewall, and the two holes by my hand line up. They progressively get misaligned to where the last hole is over 1/4” off and out of view. But at least the floor is tight again!

Less annoying than hearing the floor pop every time I get in it for the rest of my life, knowing I could have fixed it if I’d only taken the hour to do it right.... :)

I’m planning a paint day on Sunday, since that looks like the best chance for no rain. I’m hitting everything with the sander one last time. Parts are piling up.

You should just clear it to show off your fab work.

A little rain outside keeps the dust down inside.

Lots of runs! :bananatool:It’s a 10-footer for sure.

It’s just the epoxy primer; runs will be easy to hide or get rid of. Only to be covered with more runs in the primer and topcoat. I only had two bugs, but I also had two birds land on the fenders and both crap. :steamed:

I eeked out the whole job with one quart epoxy/catalyst/reducer. I had just enough to get a second coat on the exterior parts of the body. I knew it would be close, so I decided to hold off on the under-seat drawer and cabinet. I’ll paint them with rustoleum later.

Well? I guess I’m done until I sell the Hippo. I’m out of cash. :waiting: Waiting on the state to grant me a title.

The epoxy primer I used gets very hard. Its difficult to sand anything out of it.. I suggest you cut off the big runs with a razor and try to sand it out before it goes completely off an hard as carbide.. Then shoot on some liquid body filler, block it out, then 2k primer, block it out and topcoat..

I didn't do all that. My jeep looks like a waterfall!

It was so thinned, even untouched, I’d bed they’d be hard to see under a few topcoats.
I’ll keep the people guessing if it’s just shady body work or a bad paint job!

I paint everything in the orientation it’s going to live in helps keep the finish even, if you hang a hood it has a different finish than if painted flat. I also paint all the parts at once to avoid the same thing especially with a metallic.
