Metallic Blue. We painted my Long Lost Brother's ' 57 Chevy Belair that exact color.

This is better than a movie. It's going to be sharp with the grey accents.

single stage or base clear? i can offer advise on helping mitigate the blotchy or striped finish if needed.

A little final detail checked off before I hit the last little bits with primer. I still needed to mount the rear seat to the drawer cabinet. I made these little stand-offs out of some thin-wall tubing.

Please share! I have a ton of experience spraying cabinet finishes, but none with automotive finishes. I’m sure there’s some overlap in techniques, but obviously not everything.

I don’t know enough about the benefits of either to know which is more preferable (single stage vs base/clear) aside from liking the look of the depth of clear coat, but I could be persuaded either way. Any/all input is welcome. TIA

base clear is way more forgiving . measure the paint and thinner. think robot every pass needs to be the same. after you get the last coat on you can do one of two things to even the metallic. one add reducer turn the pressure up and add distance between the gun and surface and quickly dust the over reduced mixture at a 90 to the way you painted it(if you spray left to right go up and down). this is best done while the last coat is still wet. or two dont add reducer, double the distance and half the air ,same story paint like fast at a 90 still best done wet(method 2 is more difficult). with base clear its as easy as a little more air and distance sprayed fast at a 90 . you want like a fine dust to land on the dry basecoat dont tack this layer before clear. I usally keep just a tiny bit of base in the gun and add the mixed clear as you add coats just keep filling the gun till the last coat or two are straight clear, adds a ton o depth to the metallic.

No problem best to try a small test panel first if unsure. Forgot the most important step properly flash the paint too soon with the next coat will affect the finish. Clear can trap solvent from previous coats that aren’t flashed causing all kinds of bad things up to and including a total redo. Btdt

Practice makes “perfect “ or as close as we can get. Remember it’s all an illusion.

I got the last little bits primed yesterday and hit with rustoleum today.

Now I really need to get back on that baseboard trim that I started a few months ago. :ninja:

I will base one evening then clear the next morning. Or base in the morning , clear that evening. My paint supplier said from base to clear you have 24 hours before the base needs to be scuffed for clear.

Depends on the product. Personally I prefer a chemical bond to a mechanical one.

Ok, yesterday was my daughter’s birthday, I was too busy eating cake.

Here’s something little I did a while ago... the tool drawer in the back has very little clearance against the closed tailgate; I didn’t have room for a hard handle of any sort, so used two footman loops and sewed a piece of webbing to fit. Pulls out as a handle, but still lies flat.

I’ll run into town this week and talk to the paint supply guy so I can get this body painted.
