I actually had to jerry-rig a hold-open when I was carrying the load of cinder-blocks from our bottom yard.

I'm thinking just a heavy duty strap, or possibly welding on something like this:

Can you tell a little more about the fuel and water carriers? Are they jerry cans or something else? And how are they mounted?

Fuel cans: Wedco - about 15 years old. Can't find them these days with the old style cap, but these are still pretty ok: OKoffroad.com Survival Stuff - Wedco 5 Gallon Jerry Can

Water cans: Scepter ex-military. You can get them used for about $15-20 bucks at surplus stores usually, but you can find them online, too.

the mounting part, I'm still working on, but I'm thinking about just using an old school Blitz mount. The bumper has a heavy-duty shelf for the cans and mounts to sit on, that are designed for a blitz or Smittybilt mount:

progress pics, cut out and patched my rusty passenger side floorboard. Was able to retain the stock drain hole. Need to get a NOS drain "Swivel/cover"

 

Also, thanks to an awesome ECJ5 member, I snagged a set of stock manifolds. Problem is, I don't think I can make the front dump work with my steering rod from the Saginaw box. (I thought I might be able to squeeze a narrow 90 degree turn in there.

 

Alternatively, I ended up stumbling upon a rear dump manifold last week. I ground down some of the high spots, and it'll turn without binding, but MAN-0-MAN....it's CLOSE.

The second pic is AFTER clearancing the manifold a good amount, and is just about 100% of what I'm comfortable doing with a grinder. I guess I could cut and weld the manifold so that the new addition goes a bit concave at the conflict point. OR i could swap out the ginormous old u-joint for one of these:

But that would then mean that I have to modify both ends into a DD shaft configuration.

 

I used a double u-joint for my steering shaft setup to go around the motor mount and the headers and it works fine. You will need to add at least one if not two carrier bearings if you go this route. You need a carrier bearing for each u-joint beyond the first two. I used 3/4" heim joints for the carrier bearing.

Latch installed on bumper. Bit crude, but works well. Probably reinforce both the latch tab and the pull-lock against trail hits.

 

Installed some grill welting and some windshield accessories with a big assist from Mrs. Bigdaddy13

 

Rust repair. Sheetmetal is hard. I got better as I went along, but i honestly cut out and re-started one of my earlier patches due to sucking so much...lol.

Cage progress - just tacked together. it's going to go off to a buddy's pro-shop for finishing along with some more tubing/gusset additions. Bikini top is a bestop. I actually bought two for Mrs. Bigdaddy and I to combine into one long safari top. I think it'll turn out well if we take our time. (she's a very good seamstress/upholsterer)

Hope y’all had a great 4th of July. Took my peeps on a cool neighborhood cruise up to some outlooks nearby. I appreciated V6 power with 5 passengers and big hills...lol!

 

I don't know about you, but it's been miserably hot out West, with most days at least 90 degrees, if not hotter - right when I get off work around 3pm, being the hottest part of the day...lol. That being said, I think I've got my overheating issue licked with the install of a new Champion radiator that I talked about here:

Radiator shipped fast, installed easily and is hopefully going to last a good long while. I'm stoked to start being comfortable driving her for longer stints as the weather cools down - I've got my eyes on a few area's here in town with some cool dirt tracks and space to stretch her legs.

 

Wheels and tires:

So I picked up (4) Kelsey Hayes rims locally that ended up being 3 alike, 1 different.

Soooo, after initially scratching my head for a few moments, I decided I'm definitely going to keep all four. I'm thinking that I'll just keep my eyes open for another 16x5 rim, allowing me to run the thinner 4.5" wheel as my spare.
