My 82 j10 has never had signal lights that worked?
I had the tilt column out, (bad slop in bearings), for rebuild.
It had no signal light harness, so I replaced with new.
Now the mechanics work, but only the front lights come on,
And they don't blink(new electronic flasher installed).
Tail lights work, brake lights work.
Wiring under dash has benn messed with by PO.
    All other electrics work.
Light in dash comes on when signal lever is flipped, just no rear, or no blink?
    Where do I began?

Begin with grounds. Remove, clean and reseat. New shakeproof washers and a dab of dielectric grease to prevent corrosion in the future.

Trace the wiring back to the turn signal switch and beyond. Find how far the blinker signal extends and look there.

Go through the wiring one circuit at a time, to see that it matches the circuit diagram.

Sorry there's no magic bullet for this. Trace it through. Make copies of the wiring diagram and follow through the circuit with your multimeter and colored pencils.

Should the new style electronic flasher not flash with just the front lights on?
I remember the old mechanical type would not blink when tail bulb went out.
I don't think power going to flasher?
And I have a small flat 4 tab flat male plug hanging under column with nowhere to attach?
Looks flat like it would match the signal harness, but doesn't?
And their are wires cut at back of truck, where a trailer Jack was installed?
Benn using my arm out window!
But not sure younger generation know's now's what I'm doing, lol.

Please see my advice above. Start with grounds. Bad grounds will create funny back-feeding scenarios that won't make any sense. Use your multimeter to trace the wires back with your multimeter. I don't think that anyone can solve this for you without having the truck in front of them. Your turn signals go through the column, which is a common location for problems. Check that all these connections are good and tight. Pull them apart, spritz with contact cleaner, reseat.

    No magic bullet, sorry.

The old mechanical flashers work by heating up and turning off. Less current, less heat, no flash. You are correct that the electronic flasher should work with half the bulbs connected. It should also work with LEDs which draw a lot less current than bulbs. Some electronic flashers require an additional ground (to run the electronics), either through the case or with a separate ground wire.

Thanks, new signal switch and upper harness.
It has to be working cause the front lights come on, when switch is left,or right.
Should the flasher not feed the switch with 12v, before it lights the lights?
I wired my own on my old 70cj, 3position toggle switch with a flasher feeding it 12v.
Going to check grounds, and the cut wires in back, first.
    Thanks!
    I hate electrical problems!
