I don't know if I mentioned in this thread or not but, I plan to put a 231 odd fire V6 and a TH 400 in this jeep. Here are a couple pictures of the motor and trans.

By the way, I'm looking for an alternator mount and a power steering mount.

    cut ,cut ,cut, cut.!!!!!
    YOUR jeep looks great

side note: with the rear wheel centered when twisted the suspension will pull the wheels back and maybe hit the body ,I don't know if they will ,,,just throwing it out there ,can you twist it and see how much they will go back ,,aren't factory jeeps offest to the front a hair?

Today I cut off the body mounts on the YJ frame. I cleaned off what was left of the welds and cleaned off the frame paint where I will reattach the body mounts to line up with the hat channels on the cj6 tub.

I also picked up some channel iron (1" x 2") for an additional cross member to provide body mounts for the mid bulkhead.

After being away for the last week, tonight I was able to return to my jeep project. I decided to look for some material to build the body cushions because I didn't want to spring for a body lift kit and I knew I was going to cut them to my desired height just enough to clear the rear shock mounts. That turned out to be 1 3/4" above the frame. So, I searched around town, looking for the right material and I think I found something that will work. I retired from the gas company and was very familiar with the material we used for plastic gas pipe. I stopped by the construction yard and found enough scrap material to do the job. Then I went to the parts house to look for some heater hose to act as a filler between the gas pipe and the body mount bolt. I found a pile of hydraulic hose that is pretty strong stuff by its self. Pictures will do a better job of explaining than my words, so I attach some.

These are all the components I used for the body spacers.

Here you can see that I relocated the YJ body mount on the frame to a new locations that aligns with the hat channels.

Here is the body spacer with the 3/4" and 1/2" hydraulic line inserted for additional stiffness.

In this photo I am showing two body spacers installed.

Just a little update, I ordered an adaptor for the transmission/transfercase from Advanced Adaptors yesterday. I also ordered the engine mounts for the 231 V6, the transfercase shifter mount and their transfercase mount. When the parts arrive I'll take the transmission to a repair shop and have the new output shaft installed. I can't wait to get everything mounted to the frame. Soon, I will be posting pictures of the progress.

Interesting build. FYI, the photos from the first couple of pages of this thread are missing. The ones from pages four and five are visible.

Tonight I installed the YJ's master brake cylinder with the power boost and hanging brake pedal. The master cylinder was never disconnected from the brake lines on the YJ frame. I only had to raise it up into position and attach it to the firewall. I cut down the hanging brake pedal assembly and shortened the brake pedal. I will have to relocate the dimmer switch on the floor.

It is my plan to fit and attach everything and then take it all apart to paint and re-assemble.

More news today about my build, the transfercase adaptor from Advanced Adaptors arrived today. Looks like everything I ordered came in except for the v6 engine mounts, they are on back order. This will be a big step in progress. I need to take the transmission to a shop to have the 23 spline output shaft installed and then I can put everything from the motor to the transfercase on the jeep.

The jeep found a new home today.Found on Facebook Marketplace For Free . I was first in line. Pretty cool project. Body is solid, hat channels good, minor rust. Clean pink.
Thinking about what to do with it.

It is going back on a cj frame. Nothing fits correctly with the yj frame. I have a 1974 cj5 frame for the rear with a gas tank and norcal69 gave me a postal jeep frame for the front. I can weld the 2 together and fish plate .I have a 231 v6 , turbo 350, d18 .cj5 4.27 axles to go in.

Well, I am confused. Are you (Whiskey Bill) the new owner of the Jeep? Is it still going to be a cut down CJ6 or are you lengthening it back to a regular CJ6 length? Welcome from rural Pennsylvania.

Yes ,The cj6 was advertised on facebook for free. It came with clear title and has been put in my name. The last owner stopped working on it 8 or 9 years ago.He wanted a new motor cycle and his wife said something had to go. He did a pretty good job of shortening it so it will stay at 95 inches. Plus I do not have a 101 inch wb frame. I am going to weld 2 cj5 frames to get 95 inch wheelbase. I have the running gear,v6 turbo 350 ,d18, 427 gear d44,d27 out of a old project in good cond. it is kinda mounted on the yj frame but really nothing fits ,it is way to wide and in california the regestration

year is the frame not the body.
