I don't have the body on my frame. Therefore I do not have a reference for how high the gas tank sits above the frame.

I have seen pictures where the tank flange appears to be just above the lower rail of the frame. This is what I need to verify.

I have searched through this forum for my question. Everybody states to make your own brackets. Nothing is stated for the height of the brackets.

When I set the tank at the rear, I can level the tank to figure out the front bracket height.

Again, I need to verify where the flange of the gas tank sits in relation to the frame rail at the rear.

    Thanks, Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thank you.

Now I can fabricate rear brackets, level the gas tank and fabricate the front bracket.

If you need more pics, happy to take from different angles. My tub is still off the frame. So have access to things.

This looks great. Nice and very clean assembly. Currently I have no clue on how wires, brake lines and fuel lines are run. This will be a great reference for me and will help a lot.

So glad I found this thread. My 74 cj5 is missing the 3 brackets. Does anyone have or know the dimensions of the 3 brackets? Are they all the same length? Width? I know from the parts diagram the back two are different from the front center bracket.

May just have to play with it to get it right like stated above but would much rather have someone with original brackets measure them for me.

The two rear brackets are the same. The front bracket had two forms, one shaped like a "C" and one like a "Z."

Thank you very much for the reply. Do you happen to know the vertical length from frame to tank of the three brackets?

Happy to measure the brackets for you next week. I'm not home till Sunday. But if you remind me I'll post some pics and measurements. Body is still off frame so easy access.

Here you go. I may have one thing wrong on rear mounts. I mounted tank above the rear bracket. That may be wrong, and tank should be below the bracket. Check the TSM. I made sure I can mount the tank from below with the tub on. So my way works too. Just had to grind a bit of the tank flange down a bit.

When I have the rear gas tank flange just above the lower rail of the frame, I measured 3" instead of the 2" your drawing has for the back flange height. Do you have original gas tank flanges ?
Does your skid plate make it different?

3" is correct. Remeasured and that is correct, tape must have been on the bolt head or something this morning. All original brackets. And the tank sits just above the lower frame rail like you are describing.

This is a big help. Thank you

I noticed in the 6th picture, a terminal board mounted to the upper rail of the crossmember at the front of the gas tank. Also something is loosely held in place with a tie wrap. What do yo have going on there?
I like the wire sleeve material.

I know this is not the same topic. What did you do for brake lines? Did you make your own or replace with original parts?
The wiring , brake lines and fuel lines are the next steps for me.

One thing on this rebuild that sucked was the original wiring. It was eaten up by some texas animal while sitting for 'x' years! See my full build post, link in signature.

In all my years of CJs the wiring is always a problem. Usually traced back to bad grounds. That distribution block you see is a Ground distro for every rear electrical item, Lights, Gas, trailer, etc. So I built in redundancy to the common grounds/factory. I plan on doing a similar ground distro block for the dash/front end. The zip tie item is actually my fuel vapor / spill valve. I tore it apart and rebuilt it and all new hoses. Only have it zip tied to frame, since in a week or two I'm going to be loading the rolling chassis on trailer and dropping off at body shop for the body to be dropped on. Didn't want it moving while I load it. Will get mounted to the wheel well when at body shop.

Brake lines... I used In Line tube kit (google it). Full stainless steel lines. In hindsight, I would maybe have bought the stainless and bent my own. But I suck at double flares. I spent weeks going back and forth with InLine on how these "kits" did not fit 74 even though they listed it for 72-75. The engineer finally told me they use a +76 pattern for the bends and lengths. Which explains the issues I had. The rear axle was 2" longer on both sides of the distro / drop line (narrow track vrs wide track). I creatively bent to eat up that extra line. But the big item was where the rear line goes into the Prop valve. That was very different. I had to put a coil on it to eat up the length, and add an adapter to make it work. Not ideal but hope it holds fluid!

Fuel Lines.... Same In Line Tube. It fit as expected. Bit off on one bend, but nothing crazy. Ran it on top of the frame rail to pump. I did find it hard to find vapor lines. Ended up with black vinyl lines from Amazon if I recall (factory was red).

Those wire wraps are awesome. Got from Painless. But the Classic Wrap. I ordered the other wrap (forget the name) and I returned them for these. They match the 'cloth' material almost exactly like stock. Where the other wrap was more 'plastic'. Highly recommend the Classic wraps.
