It is often closed here in my place. And you never know when. On Internet, they never put a message. By phone, no one answers. It is closed because of Covid, or it is only on appointment! or only for plastic, or vegetation... By the way, these are nice Jeeps.

very nice Jeep with a beautiful winter top. This is nice to make a ride in this snowy countryside. I waited for snow, but flakes became rain in 30 minutes. No good.

It's the same here. You never know when it's open. Mostly you need to drive by and see if the gate is open or shut.

Well, lot of work. Today, I prepared the shop to fix the hoist for the hard top. I will be able (or I hope so) to move it easily, winter /summer.
Other solution is to have 2 jeeps... Or none.
because I have too often back ache, and I don't visit any doctor because of covid (waiting for vaccine) I work less with my hands.
I asked to my friends engineers if I must add some good grease in my "chinese' hoist.
I have to fix it on a beam to move the hard-top easily, so better to be ready before.
This is not obvious, the beam is with an angle, so...
    1- the beam
    2 - the hoist
3 - shop for big parts, cleaned after some months long workbench from my grand father
4 - shop for everyday work, electric parts, etc..; small workbench
5 - my Jeep, with the hard-top. I like the look, but in summer I like with no top.
It was years ago, I still had my old Nissan, on which my son trained 2 years, before buying his own car... The gearbox didn't appreciate. To the waste.

Y'all know I stripped the threads in the oil pan drain hole a few days back. Thanks to Richard in AZ, I have now got the blue 6 going again with an oil pan that traveled a couple thousand miles in a cardboard box. Thanks Richard
Hang tough, you'll get her goin.

Put most of the finishing touches on my floor repair. Next up, seat fitting and a little gas tank repair...

EDIT: Guess I haven't figured out how to post pics yet. Going to have to work on that...

Drove it to work yesterday. Getting more sure of it the more I drive it. Tempted to take it on my next solo run up to the Ouchitas. The heavy duty front, standard duty rear combo rides pretty good. Or at least as good as I imagine a CJ5 is going to get on our garbage surface streets out here lol.

Engraved on a beam: 1909. This is the new barn.

Our house is the first original farm, it was a small house and years ago 2 persons came to say hello.
They lived here around 1950, and the room in picture below was the donkey room.
A gutter in the pavement was going to a pond just behind. They lived in 2 rooms. Afterwards new owners came, the next one was a horse dealer.
And then a wood dealer came, he retired her.

We modified the house, there was a big attic, we made rooms, etc...
The first par of this house is probably end of XVIII th century.
This was a modest farmer house, with the pond for animals.

All farms around were on a water point, be necessity. We are lucky to have a well.
We imagined to build a new house with technology just besides this one, but too complex.
We adapted this one, but heating is expensive.

I wanted to build a zero energy house, which is the future.
    Maybe one day...
(sorry for the cat toilets on the picture...)

Got my Hi-Lift mounted and welded on the rearview mirror. I should've used some pins for quick removal but didn't think of it until afterward. Did a quick mockup of the Nissan calipers. The current brackets are very close to fitting but they are about an inch or so too short. The caliper would rub the outside of the rotor and I'd have to drill out the mounting ears on the bracket to make them fit anyhow.

Here is the fuel tank puzzle.

I did it the right way this go around.

steering column mount/support. I have it bolted through the dash but I could also mount it without going through the tub if I wanted to. The two pieces bent and bolted to the column used to be the exhaust hanger on my 42 GPW. The dash used to flex when I turned the wheel without the engine running. :worry: I cut a piece of 2x3 tubing in half and put the pieces around the cage where the engine bay runners come through and bolt to the cage for passenger protection. I still have to make gussets for them. Hopefully, I will never find out if they work or not.

Placed a rear driveshaft order with Tom Wood. I don't recall whom I was on the phone with, but he was accommodating and patient. I was on the phone for over an hour with them and I got an ear full, and we settled on a single cardan shaft. I was told to rotate the pinion up a couple more degrees and expect some gear "rattling" in the transfer case and some vibration mostly on hard ground where there is plenty of traction. The reason for not going with a double cardan is the joint would be operating past 22*, the shaft wouldn't have any tube since it's so short already, it would still have vibration, and it was more expensive. We both agreed it'd be a waste to spend $400+ just to have the same result as a $200 shaft.

Going on with my new hoist to move the hard-top... 1st, electric adaptation!
I am obliged to add wires and add electrical outlets, protection... takes time and I have some pain working with my right arm up...
And this is a chinese hoist so I decided to change the wires, too short! (in my idea).
I open the electric box on the hoist and work on it. By the way, the ground wire was not well fixed. better to check all, it is cheap, yes and with some work it can be better.
I have a long cord for plugging, and a 4 conductors wire for the remote control, + a waterproof connector...
In fact, this Chinese product should have need some more hand work.
This is exactly the contrary of what we use to say, cheap labor.
They save money on cheap labor! like visual control.
Because I worked with Chinese companies in industry, sub-contractors, I know quite well how they practice...
    That's China !
But China, it is 7 countries. So, I cannot make generalities about people.
In USA, you have a lot of people, melting pot. I worked in industry for French and German companies.
I had an ancestor from Alsace, my gran-grand-father, Alsatian working in metal work, locksmith things...
There is a area in Europe for metal work, precision products, including North Italy...
Around the world, we find places with people having the "German love for metal", I would say.
Sikh in India, Spanish Catalunya, etc etc... I suppose all over the world. They meet at the great specialized masses in Germany.
    I stop socially study ...

    3 - connector

Well, it is finished. The hoist has a longer electric cord, and the remote control has also an extension cord, waterproof.
It is not to go in water, but it is better to stay safe.
I had to adapt inside the electric box, it was not perfect. now it works well, tested, and I can work better.
But the hoist is not yet in position, I have to install electric line to its place...
Then I have to put it in position.
My son will help me, I am not in a hurry.
Picture of the long remote control...
