Not sure how elevation affects vacuum, but I vac tuned my carb (2G on a 198 oddfire) using the port on the backside of the carb base - one that connects to the PCV valve. I simply disconnected the hose from the rear and plugged in the vac gauge. Left the pcv hose hanging open with no tee, no plug, etc. I got a vac reading of about 23 doing it that way.

You want to tune your carb using a manifold vacuum, not a ported vacuum. There was a conversation here on ecj5 not too long ago and I seem to recall the jury is still out on whether the 2G’s distributor port provides manifold or ported vacuum.

The 2g distributor port is ported without a doubt. No vacuum (or slight) at idle. Vacuum increases as rpm raises to pull the vacuum canister on the distributor. If any body tries to tell you any different then they just don't know enough about it to be saying. The port at the rear of the carb at the base where the PCV hose is plugged is manifold vacuum. The small tube where the vacuum wipers are plugged into is directly off the manifold.

To complete this thread...... It is running Beautifully now..... smooth, strong acceleration.... timing is correct...... I am not knowing what solved the problem, because I replaced the distributor condenser, took out the ballast resister, and installed a new coil with built in resister, installed new plugs and plug wires..... and installed a new fuel filter and new fuel pump......... now it is good to go....
Thank you sooooo-ooo much for all your help and advice..... until the next problem, that needs to be solved.... Sunny

All the symptoms pointed to fuel starvation so more than likely pump
