I’ve been very curious about those electric parking brakes. Been following development of those calipers for a bit. I have R&P rear discs but no parking brake and love the idea of running wires instead of adapting cables and caddy calipers to get parking brake back. The incident at Moab got me thinking about the importance of some kind of parking brake.

I got the TC mounted brake and the release handle/cable removed. Also removed the speedo gear and pluged the hole for the speedo cable. After calibrating the gps speedo it seems to be very accurate according to my garmin and phone. The exhaust is loud especially 2,500rpm + but not as bad as i thought it would be considering how little baffling the muffler has. Ear plugs for long freeway drives are a good idea.

I finished wiring the parking brakes and bleeding the lines, they are working great :bananatool:. The front/rear bias seems good with the master cylinder im already using. the parking brake is so strong i can't pull away at all with them engaged. Im using a DPDT switch and circuit breakers. Im thinking of adding a momentary push button to act as a safety so the switch cant get bumped and lock up the wheels while driving. Maybe a relay hooked up to the brake light switch so the parking brakes can only be applied with the brake pedal pushed down. For around $300 all in, i think its a great option and im very happy so far.

What’s the clearance like between the calipers and wheels? Do they appear very much larger than other rear calipers for our applications?

The calipers and rotors are smaller than the chevy k10 calipers i have on the front, i dont know how they compare to s10 or Isuzu calipers. I run 1 1/2" wheel spacers in the rear so fitment isnt an issue and with aftermarket wheels i think they should fit fine

Here is an update on all the little projects that i did this month in preparation for this years rubicon trip. Today i welded up some slide bars to my existing rocker guards that i got from kyle. I didnt have enough spray on bedliner to do both so i left them in primer for now. I also got the frame work built for my cargo area enclosure. Got to late to use power tools so ill have to finish it next weekend.

The plastic universal coolant bottle from flaps has already gotten brittle and leaky. An aluminum hot rod reservoir replaced it. A coolant flush and new thermostat are on the things to do list.

The winch solenoid has been relocated to the inner fender and i relocated the controler plug the the grill under the turn signal. Also put on a synthetic winch line from amazon.

I also hardwired a dash switch to control the winch. I added a volt gauge and removed the angle adapters on the other gauges so they sit flat for a cleaner look.

The stock windshield latches would never hold the windshield tight and the soft top is the only thing that would stop it from rattling. I finally broke down a bought the AA latches. Pricey but they work great. I was a little woried they would hit the rollcage dash bar but the clear just enough to work.

I noticed that the rugged ridge shackles were rubbing on the shackle hanger and the military wrap on the srings were making contact with the center cross bolt. I replaced them with 3/4" lift shackles from fishbone offroad. They fit geat and they come with new bushings that have a small flange to keep them from rubbing the hanger or spring. Plus the bushings have grease grooves for better lubing. I also replaced the cheap procomp shocks with bilstein 5100 shocks and the ride quality is a huge improvement and well worth the money. I trimmed 4" off the ends of the front bumper to help reduce them chances of the bumper hanging up on objects.

Some routine maintenance got checked off the list as well. Changed fluids, new fuel filter, new vacuum line for distributor, new pvc valve and line, and i added a remote vent for the fuel tank. The timing changed and i dont know how, the distributor hold down was tight. It was at 12° and i know i didnt set it that high. I reset it to 5° and it runs alot better. I replace the air cleaner and breather with K&N units along with prefilters. The paper air filter must have been fairly restrictive since the throttle response seem to have improved.

My jeep still has the stock prestolite distributor and they aren't known for the greatest reliability. I do have some basic replacement parts for trail repairs but i have been eyeing hei distributors for a long time. I put an order in for a hei and plug wires from davis unified ignitions. I got the 1" extended version so i dont have to deal with grinding on the intake manifold. I plan on adding an offy intake and 4 barrel carb later this year. I remember someone on here having a couple defective offy intakes and i dont want to take the risk of grinding on one and not being able to return it if there is an issue.

You did a nice job adding the slider tubes to your existing rocker guards! Looks Great!!
You will want at least a couple bolts going up through the floor board on each side so that the leverage from the tube doesn't crease the tub.

I had previously installed a viair air compressor on the jeep but it was very slow to air up my tires(20+ min). This arb unit has a little more than double the cmf rating and ill eventually add a 1 gallon tank.

Finished fabrication of the rear cargo enclosure but i ran out of daylight to paint. Ill use bedliner on top for a little anti skid and regular paint on the bottom. I found these husky tote bins at home depot and two fit side by side perfectly with room to put a folding table on top of the bins. The bins have gaskets on the lids to keep out dirt and water.

My engine temp was getting a little high for my liking with the flex fan on hot days. I saw kyles post about trimming a hd flex fan and having good results. I wasnt confident in my ability to trim the blades without affecting the balance. I picked up a derale fixed 6 blade fan for 40 bucks from summit. The fan fit like a stock fan and i was able to get rid of the spacer and there is now 1" clearance between the blades and radiator which im very happy about. The shroud didnt line up properly but i saved the extension that came with the shroud kit. It holds a rag to the grill at idle and sucks it through the grill when reved up. Its going to be 100-105 all week so i guess ill find out how the new fan works.

    Nice work :)

Good moce on winch selenoid...did the same thing in mine. Way better look on the winch, and having selenoid out from direct outside element is great for longitivity :)

    keep on the good work

Nice work...your exhaust and the radiator shroud is giving motivation! Any links to the fan and universal shroud kit? Even with a brand new aluminum radiator, my V6 still runs a bit too hot for my liking.

Hey, where'd you get that accordion boot for the driveshaft? That's nifty, as-is the entire CJ and all the mods.
Great photos in this thread, by the way.

This Jeep gets my vote for “Best on the Rubicon” this year. Not the prettiest on the outside but the mods and workmanship are top notch. Great to meet you Supertrooper. Great time on the trail!!

It was super cool to see this Jeep in person, it's extremely well built and some great attention to detail. Me and my buddy were laying underneath it at the trail head admiring the cross member

It came with the tom woods driveshaft. Its kinda of funny you posted this. The boot got ripped off on the rubicon when i got stuck on little sluce. I got turtled on a big rock on the driveshaft . The shaft stayed straight and i had no vibrations on the long drive home.

Ah, I figured it must have been custom or unique to the brand of driveshaft... but it looked "necessary" or just another accessory to get.

I guess it's not trail ready or Rubicon Approved.

Did you get the new HEI installed? Working well?
Were you running with points at Rubicon?

The tom woods driveshaft held up surprisingly well and i highly recommend them. i liked the boot and i might try to get a replacement. Both shafts have long travel slip yokes and the boot keep grim out of the extra long splines. I just drove a liitle too aggressive especially for having to drive the jeep 550 miles back home
