Ok people my brothers cj5 is a 1975 and has a battery draw i have unkooked the negative terminal and ran a test light from the negative post to negative terminal it lights up. I spent hours unplugging fuses Nothing I have unplugged the alternator, every wire connector known to man nothing. The only thing I have not disconnected is the starter and coil iam lost and need some guidance

what's going on? you have connection between the negative battery post and the negative lead? sounds like something is grounding out where it's not supposed to

is power only to the starter and coil, or is it to the ignition switch too? i imagine it'd have to be if the coil is too, the switch itself could be improperly connected.

The ignition switch sorta went bad like 15 years ago and the on only worked so a push button was installed to turn the starter this jeep is nothing close to a stock 75 it has a 360

so is that connected or not? if so, try connecting only it, just to see if that is where the drain is coming from. try to limit what you are checking for a leak to only one item at a time, it's slow but is by far the most effective method

Do you own a multimeter? A test light might work but a multimeter is better. The amps scale on a multimeter will tell you how much current is flowing in a circuit. Start with everything turned off and the negative cable disconnected. Measure between the disconnected negative cable and the battery post.

Start disconnecting circuits until the drain goes away. You can remove fuses, and unplug the harnesses where they come together - bulkhead (firewall) in two halves, front of the car, back of the car. Look at the wiring diagram in your TSM. A '75 has a different wiring diagram from all other years of CJ-5. You need the TSM. Not Haynes or Chiltons, which are full of errors. The factory TSM.

Disconnect the alternator and voltage regulator.

    Be systematic. Divide and conquer.

A '75 is an Intermediate Jeep and your post belongs in that forum.

If you have a tach and it's plugged in that is probably your draw.
