I don't have the time to buy wire and wait for it to get here so I used what I could find locally. While I was in there I replaced the alternator wire and went with 4 AWG. It's better than what was there.

The bad thing about the battery being here is I have to remove the fender but that's not too bad considering it's only held on by a couple bolts. This is just another reason I like nothing mounted on the fenders.

Worked on a couple things that've been put off for a while. I rigged up a limiting "strap" and started to work on the cross member additions. I have one more "leg" to weld up and then I need to figure out what gauge steel I want the skidplate to be. 3/16 would probably be fine for what I do.

Got home from the family emergency trip to Alabama in the XJ, my maintenance tracking app showed 4 overdue items so I knocked them out. Rotate Tires, Hit the grease zerks, lubricate locks and hinges and pumped out and refilled the power steering reservoir.

Run what ya brung, ehhh? Still messing with mine. Yesterday turned into today and at 1 this morning the wife came into the garage and said "it's 1 o clock you know?"

So the work was: take out the old gas tank that lasted about 30 years and instal the new one. Had to trim all 4 corners just like before. And the pickup tube on the new sending unit sticks up higher than the old one. Not too keen on that but, gotta roll with it. So got that done, Installed two spring hanger bushings at the back end while the tank was out. (Thanks Rich.) Bolted the x-fer skid plate back on. Started organizing tools and parts for the trip.

Sample of what was in the bottom of the old tank. No wonder it started seeping.

Got to bed at 2. Up at 530. Still plenty to do. Gotta get some gas back in the tank. Pull a locking hub off and reseal it. Keep organizing and packing and prep for a long trip on a trailer.

Not gonna get bump stops on it. No matter. I don't think it ever touched the ones that were on it and fell off from old age.

Barely beat the rain, but the main structure is done and I blew some paint on it. I redid the D20 mount while I was there; I cut a piece of tubing, took an old body bushing, modified the bushing to fit the inside of the tube, and welded it onto the cross member.

Started my search for a piece of 3/16 plate. I called my local steel supply and they wanted $100 for a 24x50 so I decided to give the scrap yard a try. Drove over to the scrap yard and dug through a pile of scrap until I saw this 24x48 piece under a couple I beams. I drug it out and went back to pay for it. They claimed it was 80 lbs ($48). No way it's that heavy but whatever.

My plan was to score the plate and bend it and everything was going great until it wasn't.

Well, it didn't come out exactly as I had imagined but it's there. Not sure it was necessary to build the skid plate up the side of the cross member but I thought it would look better.

That should hold me over on modifications for now I guess. Still need to swap my transfercase gears (2.46), rear driveshaft loop, engine, D44 FF, and procure a D44 for the front.

3 years ago this wreck followed me home.

I've been wanting to see how much the suspension would travel and check to make sure the front driveshaft didn't interfere with the new cross member/skid plate. I think this was full stuff. I feel like there was a bit more travel in the front.

Mk. II driveshaft loop. Amazing how this thing pukes gear oil considering the angle of the pinion. Should be ready for the next trail ride. :)

I thought I would start with something easy, ........
Just as our cross country trip was ending ( in May ) the air compressor started making a lot of noise, so I shut it off and would look at it when I got home. First problem was the fuse was melted, not just blown. rplc fuse and it won't start. so I unbolt it and lay it flat, is runs, but it sounds like a loose chunk of metal inside. but if I turn it upside down it's as quiet as a mouse. So I tore it apart. nothing loose inside ????
I bought this in 2004 from CanDo Specialties in Ca. and it has run perfectly since then. cylinder wall is fogged where the piston ran but no major scoring. piston bearing looks good. So I guess I'll clean everything, lube the piston shaft, and put it back together. Do I put something on the piston seal? If so what, grease, silicone, or just leave it alone

When I worked for Thermo we had vacuum pumps that got rebuilt once a year, I'd replace the diaphram and the metal plates over the in and out ports, this pump has similar plates but I haven't touched them at all, I guess I'll clean them and maybe flip them over. Since CanDo is out of business and so is interdynamics the pumps mfr

Replaced a fuse for the wipers & drove it. I'm optimistic about the MPG's , after the new injectors install :waiting:

Went for a ride yesterday. Finally hit the 500 mile mark.
Leaving I drove around 40 and the ride quality is so much better at higher speeds.

My wife and the farm lady are discussing a terrible subject, which is going to divide the world.
The farm lady is a new grand-mother, going soon to see the baby.
She says that all are vaccinated.
And she adds that a neighbor and friend is not accepting the idea of vaccine.
So the farm lady, and his husband, told him not to come visit us...
The man was unhappy, and I suppose that it will be like this in many places.
