I always joke, that in order to keep an old jeep on the road you don't have to be a blacksmith, but it sure helps if you are, now I'm adding carpenter to the list.

Can anyone think of a reason why my stock fuel tank strap would be about 1” shy of the floor?

tank is too high, rear hole too far back, incorrect length repo part.
    Those are your options.
I see your floor has been replaced also, I would just add an appropriate length spacer if correcting the above mentioned things dont make your strap reach.

I’m trying to remember as I replaced my tank this past year. Will it tighten down and get there? Do you have any spacers under the tank? I want to say originally they came with wood but maybe I’m mistaken.

When I installed my tank, the tank strap was a little shy. I think my spacer under the tank was to thick. I just put a spacer between the strap and the floor. When you bolt the strap to the floor, it will stretch some. Gap will not be that bad.

I recall my installation of this tank and strap in a '73 also had a gap from the floor. 100% new Jeep factory parts. The strap needs to be a little short to ensure holding the tank down positively. I put sections of black rubber bungee cord under my tank; their thickness may have held it a little higher than stock.
