I'm thinking about getting my fuel injection setup installed this winter finally. Something I didn't think much about till now is the fuel supply. I'll be running a 4.3L tbi setup. Does anyone know of a cheap easy to find in tank pump? Looking for one that runs 15psi. something like this is what I'm hoping for

Tanks GPA-TBI In-Tank Fuel Pump Module, GPA Series

Guess right now I'm trying to find a good pump to use and then build a tank to fit. I know there's alot of external pumps but trying to find something that will go inside a tank to keep it quieter and more contained.

Surge tank? Not the same as an in-tank pump.

I recall you can use the GM 4.3L 15psi pump, mounted on a Jeep sender, as an in-tank pump. There were articles about this in ... Binder Bulletin? Does not come up in a quick search, but it's been done.

I don't see why you could not build a surge tank and mount the 4.3L pump in it. You will need some way to put the lock ring in the top of your fabbed tank - a sacrificial fuel tank?

    Inline tank, surge tank...
I've seen it called surge tank so far.

I'll have to look at my tank and see what kind of sender mount it has right now. Should be the 6 bolt one. Assuming the pump and sender would be from something the 4.3 came out of then.

I just pulled the plastic tank and put an original steel tank back in. The fuel pickup on the steel one is on the bottom of the tank. The plastic one is on top out the sender.

If I could canibalize a pump and sender to work with the stock tank that would be even easier. But if I needed to fab a small inline tank could do that as well

I didn't document my tbi install too well but with the under seat tank fuel is likely to slosh away from the pickup sock.
On a carburetor this isn't an issue as the float bowl serves as a reserve of fuel and a place for any air picked up to leave the fuel supply. Not saying you can't or shouldn't but plan accordingly.

I bought the remote fuel filter bracket to modify as a fuel water air separator. Hopefully i can hold a quart of fuel.
With an in tank pump I would use a fuel mat for the pickup with the return stream in contact with the mat.

    Ahhhh...
Now I understand how that comes into play.
I am still leaning towards a secondary tank so I don't have to mess with the stock fuel gauge sender.

    $190 right from tanks website
TANKS Inc. gas tanks for street rods, muscle cars, custom cars and trucks

Still hoping for a cheaper alternative but this is pretty much what I'm looking for. Use the mechanical pump to go thru a filter and into the second tank. This sending unit to send 14+ psi to the tbi. Use the pressure regulator on the tbi and send the return back to a tank.

Would It be better to send the return back to the underseat tank for both pumps or send return from tbi back to the inline tank?

Tanks Inc did a custom tank for my friends 57 chevy 4 door wagon. He is really happy with it for his LS swap.

Edit: turns out he can't speak to the cost since he got one pre production sample for feedback and testing.

Well, my work bench is fuel injected now:shrug:

Need to get a Dremel bit and clean up the holes a little. Used a 1" mill and etcha-sketched the majority of the 2 holes with the x and y axis.
But, the plate and mounting holes are in and it will bolt together now. Guess I should get a pump now and go from there
