I picked up a core V-6 and noticed the oil filter is a little different than I have seen before.
Anyone see an adaptor like this?

No...but looks like it would help avoid the interference with the lower radiator hose that is a pain to deal with.

It knida looks like a 90 degree adapter screwed where the filter normally goes.

I kind of does. except it is 2 piece. Look at picture 2, there is a wedge shaped piece next to the timing cover filter flange. No visible bolts either, does it just attach with a long hollow stud?

My guess is it would unscrew from the original filter location by turning the whole assembly counter-clockwise.

If you have the time Ray, I'd like to see photos of it disassembled.

Various Buick engines used the same timing cover (both 198 and 225 V6, and the 215 V8), therefore, they had interchangable oil pump housings that "pointed" the oil filter is several different configurations depending on the application. I'm pretty sure the Dauntless used one of the the Buick car configurations.
I have never seen that elbow style pump housing ever before. I wonder if it was a part used on a marine conversion. You're going to make me look up what Land Rover did on their limited run of Series Stage 1's as a possible application.
If you remove it, see if there are any part numbers cast on it. I'd be curious as to the origin of that pump housing.

I'm pretty sure this is integral as the whole lower pump housing rather than a screw-on adapter.

I will definitely take it apart when i get back, it is hunting season so I will be away for about a week.
    Pictures when I get back.
It seems to be 2 pieces. The aluminum doesn't seem to be the same quality of the timing cover which I think is vacuum cast.

    Ok,
Got around to removing it so here are some pictures.
Large piece is cast and then rough sanded, surfaces then machined. Small piece if turned from bar stock.
Gasket is hand cut, probably a replacement.
    I'm thinking it's a proto-type

Looks more like It is 1 off machined by hand inputs and eye. Band saw and off center rounds.
