Help identifing what i have, the title states 1951 CJ3A, but the gas tank fill is under the drivers seat, and i can't see where the side fill has been changed or welded over, also it has a 7 slot grill whitch does not match a GPW ford built willys. It also has the tool boxes made into the back of the rear fenders. It has now motor and the front cross member has been cut out so identifing it has got me stumpeed. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

A 3A will have the fuel tank and grill as you describe. It would not have the wheel well tool boxes in stock form but those could have been added. Do they look like the MB/GPW lids? As per above, a few photos would REALLY help.

First thing I would look for is whether it's a G503 frame, (gun mount under the bed). Then, gas tank sump, glove box door, under seat tool box, etc. Grilles change easily, but you could also have an MB tub on a 3A frame, or whatever.

The forum will host your pictures, but they cannot be too big. Your phone probably defaults to a resolution that is too large. I find the 800x600 is a good size for online pics, and the forum will reliably accept that size.

Once you have small enough pictures, you can drag and drop them to your post. Note that, to add pictures to an old post, you must go to the editor at the "More Options..." button.

That does sound like a WWII-vintage (MB or GPW - same Jeep, Willys- and Ford-built resp.) body tub. You'd also have a full-floating rear axle with an MB/GPW. By "under the driver's seat" I presume you mean that you tilt the seat and the fill is on top of the tank, not through the body side.

What it says on the title for vehicles this old doesn't mean a lot, half the Jeeps I have owned had titles that didn't match the vehicle, people do all sorts of things to get one registered.

A picture of a tool box lid would help identify whether it is a Willys MB, or a Ford GPW tub. As far as I know those were the only flat fender Jeeps which did not have a side fill tank. If you don't have lids a measurement of the top of a wheelhouse would tell something.

The last military flat fender the M38 was built alongside the CJ3A, and it had a side fill tank. Both of these Jeeps had a shorter wheelhouse than Earlier Jeeps, but only the GPW and MB Jeeps had those tool boxes in the wheelhouses.

With tool boxes in the rear and the gas tank filler under the seat it is most certainly a WW2 Jeep, whether GPW or MB can only be told by certain items which differed between the two, one difference being the tool box lids in the back. Having the later grill means nothing, many were changed to the later grill for the better headlights. The 6V WW2 lights weren't even legal for street use in some states.
