I'm not a purist but I think a 6.50 or 7-16 would be most appropriate for a stock CJ from the 50s. A 7.50x16 would be better with a 2 1/2 inch lift, as they are around 32.5 inches tall.

Is there a particular brand or tread pattern you prefer for the vintage look?

Just my 2 cents...radials make an old Jeep drive a lot better.

Lots of threads on tires if you do a search.

I have seen some nice Jeeps on this forum with radial tires on them.

I am running Blue Star M+S 7.5x16 tires and have been fairly happy with the tires. They are HEAVY. I had to add some additional support behind the spare tire bracket because it was sagging.

I went with the speedway brand bias ply NDT, because they have a vintage military look and are relatively inexpensive. I was torn between the 7.00x16 and the 7.50x16 Ended up getting the 7.50 and I’m glad I did because they run very small. The speedway brand 7.50 is basically a 7.00.

That said, I’m very happy with them. They’re my first bias ply tire, so not much to compare them to, and a Jeep ain’t a race car, but I think they handle just fine.

for my next set, I’ll probably get a true 7.50 NDT, as I have a 2.5” lift so it should fit just fine.

No. They don't look like an NDT, BUT they are dimensionally very similar to the 7.00 x 16 NDT -- same overall diameter and just one inch or so wider. I think they could be somewhat fairly compared to a Super Traxion-type tire. I myself love the vintage tire look, but I do not like the way those tires handle, nor do I like the temporary flat spots. That being said, I agree that there is no tire that looks better than the classic bias ply.
