    I knew you'd eventually have a shoot...

Now to make a bandsaw that can be mounted on the sled. I have an old 14 inch delta, but you really just need two wheels, a blade, and a adjuster. Oh, and a shoot...

I do like the fact that it looks like it has been around for 40 years...

Rig a system for the Hot exhaust to direct exit onto the Track , ahead of the trolley. Then , only use the saw when it's 32 degrees or above. 6 degrees is not very productive in working with steel & aluminum. AMHIK

Gutter or roof heating elements? Loop of pex tubing going to the 3b's cooling system... or simply convert to a liquid cooled bike motor to heat the loop of pex.

The cut is on the uphill side, the oiler is just under the drive sprocket on the downhill side. So the chain and nose sprocket get oiled before the cut.

The cold won’t be an issue when it’s all one temp. The issue was the melting from above, then instant freezing below. The whole assembly is top heavy and rolled off the dolly on the way outside, so everything warm was covered in melting snow.

Your oiler is not getting oil into the channel of the bar and is going to burn the nose sprocket up. You need to figure out a way to get oil in to the oil port on the bar .

Look again at post #141 at this pic:

The oiler is feeding the exposed teeth, not the side of the chain. It’s getting plenty of sufficient oil.

I can’t. Then I’d have to change the thread title. :bash:

These clamps got way more involved than I’d planned, but they needed to have at least 12” of in/out adjustment, and about 28” of up/down adjustment. Here’s what I came up with. The only thing the scrap yard had that was useful was a 6’ length of 1 1/2” x 2” x 3/16” rec tube. The rest of this was built from the 5/16” off-fall section I cut from the center of the channel I made the track from.

I cut holes in plates to pass the tubing through.

I grabbed two $5.00 5” C-clamps from harbor freight and cut the screw off. I knocked the pads off the tips and sharpened the balls to blunt points.

Here’s the final product. The lower arm slides into the tubing that the log sits on and has about 14” of usable adjustment. The upper arm slides up/down freely on the tubing until cocked, then it locks in place.

I’d go out and try it, but it’s dumping snow again. :gaah:

I hit them with some red paint left over from Halloween and slid them in place. They really lock the log in place.

I might get to try it tomorrow. Temps are going up to 40°, then after that, it’s going single digit days, sub-zero nights for the foreseeable future.

My experience suggests that some kind of engagement for the bottom of the log helps to prevent it slipping/rotating.

From my experience, those HF , white metal clamp , screw boss's , will possibly snap on you. especially under tension & vibration ?

To secure the log you could make a vertical version of the standard log holding dog system used on band mills but the vertical supports for those would need to be movable to accommodate differing log sizes.

This won’t have horizontal forces against the workpiece like a band mill (or my first configuration) would. Even if it does, the screws dig into the log and lock it from moving. It’s pretty darn secure. I was whacking the log with a sledgehammer and it wouldn’t budge.
